So someone mentioned on another thread that Tustin Legacy HS will soon be constructed. I highly doubt it.

Doubtful.  Heritage elementary was built over 4 years ago, and is still not open.  TUSD is being forced to open it in 2016 in order to get the CFD on Greenwood, but City of Tustin has no leverage to push TUSD to build the high school "soon".  I would be surprised if anything happened before 2020.

Funny thing you mentioned that. Back in the day (2011) The City of Tustin sued TUSD regarding the school. They both reached a settlement.

link regarding previous City of Tustin and TUSD lawsuit.http://www.tustin.k12.ca.us/Domain/1278

"Heritage School, a $12 million, 10-acre elementary school at 15400 Landsdowne Road on the former Tustin Marine base, was expected to open in the fall of 2011 but that date was postponed due to low enrollment. The surrounding communities had about 78 elementary-age students, Tustin Unified stated, far short of the 300 ideal for opening the school."

Here's the funny thing about that article...there was NEVER any enrollment done.  There was NEVER any engagement with the homeowners in CS to get that "78 students" number.  In fact, CS homeowners took a poll, and provided more accurate numbers to TUSD, and they were largely ignored.

There have been a ton of lawsuits between City of Tustin & TUSD...some of them were stupid, but done out of retribution for other things.  Colossal waste of tax money if you ask me.

Built but still not open?

We had lots of problems with the TUSD back in 1989 regarding being forced into Veeh and their overcrowded portables when Tustin Memorial had a 40% vacancy but at that time we could transfer to IUSD if a parent worked in Irvine which many did and others just put their kids in private school.

TUSD should be ashamed of themselves. They could easily adjust boundaries.

Absolutely.  The school itself was completed in 2011, and was done because the Navy had a "build it or lose it" clause in their land agreement.  TUSD built the school, then promptly began using the facilities for administration as well as a continuation school (which shows as a 3/10 rated program on public records BTW).  Many parents in the area drive past a perfectly good EMPTY school on the way to dropping off their kids at a private school a few miles away.

TUSD is now only agreeing to open Heritage in 2016 to secure additional CFD/mello roos at Greenwood, in order to build a 6-12 school.  This is the only leverage City of Tustin has over TUSD.  There was originally supposed to be a separate middle school & high school, but it's sounding like they are trying to combine them into one campus.

I've lost all faith in TUSD to do the right thing...or any thing, for that matter.  I've voted against the incumbents every election, but they keep getting re-elected.  Shame.

If Veeh was in Irvine, I will bet IUSD would have closed that school and used mello to build a new one but Tustin is STILL after 25 years trying to force new home buyers into that school with horrible ratings (not that the current students would get better scores but at least you'd have a new school, which after all you paid for.

"TUSD Announces Opening of Tustin Connect Academy for 2015-16

The Tustin Unified School District has announced the opening of the Tustin Connect Academy for the 2015-16 school year.  Tustin Connect Academy (TCA) is an online school that will serve students in kindergarten through the eighth grade.

?Students will have the flexibility to learn and progress at their own pace from home while receiving the same level of expert instruction and guidance that students experience at all TUSD schools,? Connect Academy Administrator Dr. Dustin O'Malley said."

Maybe trying to get that homeschooling crowd?

You know the ones who don't want to vaccinate.*

*Purposely inflammatory

From the Heritage Elementary website.

"Open Enrollment Policy

Tustin Unified School District has an open enrollment policy that allows students to apply to attend a school other than their school of residence. Approvals are for one year, and are reviewed each year. Transfer requests will be available at each school, the District Office, or from the TUSD website at the beginning of the calendar year and submitted for consideration on the dates established by the Board for Open Enrollment.

Each school is required to serve the students who live within its attendance boundaries before accepting students outside the boundaries. After residents are accommodated, any requests submitted will be processed on space available basis. More information, procedures, and criteria are available from Student Services."

Looks like you don't even have to live in TL to go there.

The point was that technically you don?t have to live in school district to attend a certain public school

But there is not a lottery combined with a waiting list. (Even the waiting list is competitive for IUSD, man!)

Yeah there is no argument that iusd probably has higher demand and they arrived at this process. But technically you don?t have to live in the School district to attend.

Wait. What are you taking about?
1. Living in the district and transferring to another school in the district.
or
2. Not living in the district and transferring to a school even though your not assigned to that district.

I?m talking about both.

I beleive all public schools offer intra-district  and inter-district transfers, space permitting of course.

What are you talking about?

Bottom line in my opinion there is no advantage living in the area assigned to Heritage besides living close to the school.

History will repeat itself with TUSD.
