Trieu Chau - Santa Ana

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Momo posted it a while back. It serves only lunch hours and closes around 5pm. The place is dirty with old food and sauce stains on all window frames and glass. The former Indo Chinese kitchen folks now take order and your money. The Mexicans are the chefs and runners for the tables.

Doh! Thanks bk! I should have known better than to recommend an Asian restaurant for momo. Here's his post:

No date period.

I have been going here for the past 20 years. The duck noodles, the beef stew noodles (mmmm tendons), and the fish cake noodle are all ridiculously delicious, the accompanying egg noodles is always chewy and perfectly cooked.

I took my wife here while we just started dating, she a white girl form south county and I guess I was been going here so long I have never notice how dirty this place actually was. We were seated in a communal table and she was one step from yanking me out of there when a bowl arrived for the old man sitting next to us. She took on woof of the delicious broth and we have been going back ever since.

The wait staff speaks a variety of Asian languages. I have on occasion ordered in my white washed Thai. Unbeatable value, endless menus items Trieu Chau is one of my all time OC favorite.</em>

Sharing tables with strangers is only unconfortable for westerners who feel it is unpolite not to acknowledge others at your table. Asians have no problem sharing a table with strangers and be totally oblivious to their presence.

Try their eggroll, it is really good.

If you want the chinese donuts...come before 10am. After 10am...there is nothing left.

Hey momo- Just wondering if you've ever tried Favori in Santa Ana. My in-laws really love that place (Viet-French food).

I recall going to a restaurant with friends from Cal Trans to eat catfish a few years back, if I'm not mistaken, it's probably this restaurant. It's been a while. If I go back and check their menu, I can probably confirm.

That's definitely the place, catfish is the must-eat menu item there.

Favori is overpriced and so dark inside. You don't know if there plate are clean...at least with Trieu Chau...you can at least see what you eat. LOL

I remember going to this restaurant since I was in highschool. It's funny that I hadn't been there for 10 years, and when I went back recently, I still recognized the same servers. The owner still sits in his chair watching the customers and workers. If you ever go to Trieu Chau, order the complimentary pork bone soup. It comes with 2 pork bones in a broth. It use to be free, but I'm not sure if it is anymore.

Newport is also in this dirty little plaza. It serves very good lobster.

Trieu Chao and Newport are Cash Only, but if you don't have cash, they'll bring out their hidden CC machine so you can pay.
