The new Irvine high school

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
This is exactly my point. While it is easier to get A's in less competitive schools like Woodbridge or Irvine (especially Irvine HS, beating out those section 8 or low income kids without many resources is not that challenging), it does not prepare you for the more competitive environment at the elite universities. In other words, an Irvine high school graduate, may have a better chance to get into Standford, but he will have a hard time keeping his grades up - that's where the C students come from - valedictorians from inferior schools. In the work place, I'd prefer an A student from UCLA/UCSD over a C student from Standford, water polo team or not.

Re:  Northwood High:

I heard a Korean mom say that some of the Korean families who were planning on sending their kids to Northwood High are changing their minds and sending their kids to Woodbridge.  I asked why, and she said that the Northwood High is too competitive and that it is starting to be known that the Korean kids going to Woodbridge are all getting A's.

I thought that was interesting...esp. because this is coming from the Korean families I know who have weekly tutors and/or after school educational schools for kids to help them with classwork and be ahead.  If these "competitive" families think that Northwood High is too competitive, it must really be competitive.

By the way, I do not make the ghettos stuff up. If you look at the below older post from irvinehousingblog, the neighborhoods that got B+ or worse grades are mostly zoned for Irvine high. Case closed.http://www.irvinehousingblog.com/blog/comments/what-is-the-condition-of-irvines-housing-stock
While Woodbridge High may be rated as less competive (or ghetto-tastic), its housing stock gets an A by that article and Global Decision's data-centric "hedonistic" study shows Woodbridge as the most valuable 'hood after the Turtles and Quail Hill:

Thanks for this insightful graph that I forgot about. I am not dissing Woodbridge as much as Irvine HS. Certainly I would not call Woodbridge ghetto and I think Woodbridge HS is an above average HS but not as good as NW or as elite as Uni.

Any way, this plot confirms what I have been saying all along - only one Irvine HS hood shows up in the top 10 - No 9. Woodbury. University, Northwood, Woodbridge, and even Beckman all have hoods that rank higher. El Camino Real and Walnut rank very low.

Woodbury is therefore the King Ghetto of all Irvine ghettos.

I just love the chart of pecking order. Yes, we are all adult here but we no different that a third grader. They compare shoe laces and backpacks and we compare houses, neighborhoods and school bragging rights.

My big concerns when picking a school
1. Classes offered
2. Schedule
3. Sports programs

If Junior and Juniorette are going to Stanford on athletic scholarships, the school better have a legit sports program. Even if they do not play in college, it will help them in the future (career/social life) to have some athletic ability. There is no message board here for people to have "pick-up jazz/orchestra" performances.

Good for you. There is always an exception to any rules and social science or literature majors do not count. Engineering majors, professional degrees like medical, lawyers and business schools....etc are the ones that count for Irvine buyers. If you don't have an advanced degree, have a large family inheritance/endowment or own a successful business, Irvine is not for you.

Any way let's reiterate the facts:
1. Irvine HS has the lowest API scores in all 4 IUSD high schools. Check
2. The housing element update, provided by the City itself, confirms most of the older villages that are out of date, feed into Irvine HS. Check
3. The hedonistic model graph, prepared by an independent statistician, confirms the villages that feed into Irvine HS are not among the desirable villages in Irvine, as the price growth is either little or negative. Woodbury despite being relative new, its central location and having those amenities, only rank 9, even below Potty Springs (hint NW HS). Check

There is a positive correlation between 1 and 3 because majority of today's buyers look into that kind of stuff. 2 explains partly why Irvine HS has low API scores and verifies my ghetto claim of those villages.
