Poverty is a BS excuse...many kids have grown up in poverty and excelled in School.

If you are not allergic, I recommend you get a cat. It certainly took care of my nurturing desire. So much easier to clean a cat box than to pick up doggy doo-doo. Watch out though, cats are like potato chips - you're never satisfied with just one. :)
