I agree that English proficiency is vital for academic success. But there are many students who do not have a language barrier, yet still struggle in school. I think it has to do with poverty. I'm afraid many poor students do not believe in the value of a good education.

Their role models are different and don't emphasize education. Poor kids can only imitate and aspired to people surrounding them.

Poverty is a BS excuse...many kids have grown up in poverty and excelled in School.

I kept waiting for the "I want to be a mother" gene that I am supposedly born with to kick in. I really believed I was just a late bloomer with it, but ultimately realized that it's just not there and not going to be. I get my nurturing fix from my garden and really hope to convince hubby that a boxer won't ruin our lives.

If you are not allergic, I recommend you get a cat. It certainly took care of my nurturing desire. So much easier to clean a cat box than to pick up doggy doo-doo. Watch out though, cats are like potato chips - you're never satisfied with just one.
