I wouldn't consider real estate a good investment, especially if you want security. People over the past 8 years made this mistake and those who bought late are finding that out now. The richest people in the world made money in stocks, not real estate. Yea, they may own real estate now, but its only after they made money in stocks, e.g. Buffet still owns the same home in Omaha he bought in the 60s, yet has $50B in the bank.
