If the S4 is well received, it may be bad news for Apple investors--

I would like nothing more than for Apple to be taken down a notch but the S4 won't do it.  Sammy is rush it and all the good stuff is not going to be in this phone.  Inferior chip, screen, and technology on the S4.

Don't get me wrong, I'm an Apple fan but their 2 year cycle on changing body styles for the iPhone puts it at a disadvantage. Yes, Sammy might use inferior surface materials on their phone but their rate of innovation is incredible. Apple probably doesn't need to worry about the S4 but should be scared of the S5 and 6 in the coming 18 months. If Apple's response is simply another S version (i.e. upgraded camera, small software tweaks, faser processor), they will continue to cede market share to Sammy.

Well... a 1080p PHOLED screen (to save power consumption) is good technology to me.

It is a slight upgrade.  It was supposed to be an AMOLED screen but there is talk that there is production issues and thus no AMOLED

From what I read, PHOLED is better than AMOLED (or SuperLCD3 which is what the new HTC One is using).

Samsung's AMOLED uses Pentile layout which may claim is inferior... PHOLED is supposed to be an improvement.

1080p resolution is more than a slight upgrade... we're talking Full HD resolution that you currently have on your flat-screen TVs in the space of 5 inches.

What makes you think that Samsung is "rushing" it.

As for Apple, despite how "perfect" they think the size of their iPhone is... they need a to make a bigger screened phone to compete with all the new Android ones.

PMOLED is a step up from your standard OLED...it's passive.  AMOLED is the advance version and allows for much greater clarity. and resolution.    Samsung has a new "green PHOLED" which saves you battery but loses the resolution.

Samsung is pushing out the S4 despite not being able to incorporate AMOLED screens and its own (and much better) chip into LTE use.

PMOLED <> PHOLED.

PHOLED is phosphorus OLED... a different OLED technology similar to AMOLED but using lower power.

I thought they moved to PHOLED to address the higher power requirement that 1080p has.

I didn't know about the LTE issue, although I find it interesting they don't use their own LTE chip.

Sorry about the confusion.  You are right about the acronyms but the resolution issue remains.

They have been having problems with the LTE chip in their chip since the S3...can't solve it apparently.

A lot of this is speculation though...need to see the phone and the real specs to really comment.

With all the leaks around... I'm just watching the event to find out exact specs and release date... I already know what it looks like... a Galaxy S3S:

As I expected, the S4 is pretty meh.  Some nominal hardware upgrades and gimmicky software.  The wireless charging is kinda of interesting as the NFC but not worth $200.

Will probably go with a free S3 when I upgrade.

I agree. Feels more evolutionary vs revolutionary: upgraded processor, bigger/better screen, better camera, slightly smaller body but similar design of S3, several software tweaks/tricks. Nothing that blows the competition out of the water but it clearly puts it ahead of the iPhone. The only thing Apple now has is a superb ecosystem and better industrial design/body materials. If Apple sticks to its traditional "s" model type upgrade this fall, it may be a problem for them.

I think the 1080p screen is a pretty big deal, more than just a spec bump.

Outside of the US, I believe they are getting the Exynos 8-core CPU... fayapowah! (Night of the Museum 2 reference)

While their commercials are good, Samsung's product unveiling needs work. I watched the video last night and it was full of cheese and awkwardness. JK Shin is no Steve Jobs... or even Tim Cook.

The S3 is going to feel dated in a year, I would get the S4 instead.

My S2 has held up quite well and I had very few issues.  I rather save the $200.

Yeah.... I'm just a sucker for pixel density.

The higher res the better... even if my eyes are too old to see.

I do hope Apple comes out with a bigger screened phone this year... even if it's still the 1136x640 resolution. They can actually go up to 1420x800 (app scaling issues aside) and have a 5" screen to retain their "Retina Display".
