We just learned the sushi bar at Irvine Gelson’s is massive and run by 2 Japanese sushi chefs. Anyone been there? The bartender from Irvine was at our Dana Point Gelson’s Friday and told us.

This is the Gelson's at Jeffery & Alton?

Will drop by this week and have a look. I recall a poke bar but not a sushi bar...

Yes. I’m going to check it out tomorrow.

Went to Coastal Kitchen in DP last night - not a Houston’s restaurant but has some connection as it’s basically the Gulfstream menu. Incredible food and bar scene and very good pricing. No need to go to Irvine or Newport for a Houston’s fix!

Have yet to try Silverlake Ramen, what do you think of it compared to HiroNori?

I've had it at the Spectrum when they first opened there and it's fine.

Apparently one of the HiroNori founders co-founded and managed the original Silverlake Ramen in LA before opening up HiroNori because the owner of Silverlake Ramen wouldn't allow him ownership stake. https://extension.ucr.edu/features/chasingadream

Wienerschnitzel off of Jamboree just south of Campus closed I don't know when. That has been there for decades.

Starbucks going to move there from their spot next to Round Table Pizza.

Starbucks is taking over. They opened up a new one on edinger and jamboree where the old jack on the box used to be. I never see anyone there. So if you are craving Starbucks and dont want to wait in the drive thru lane you can go here.

They finally started construction on the Starbucks next to McDonald’s on culver/irvine center drive. They have had that coming soon sign forever and the one on edinger opened up faster - granted the building was already there since it was the old jack in the box.

woah, for 20+ years I would eat at that jack in the box while getting tires.

I'm so tired of all of these Starbucks locations. It's becoming overkill. I wish we could get a few drive-thru Coffee Beans at least.

Nalu's Hawaiian in Quail Hill closed.

Brooklyn's Finest (formerly NY Upper Crust) is being replaced by Mr. Moto Pizza.

Anyone try Bopomofo (that name is hilarious)?

Also a strange combo bakery/cafe/pizza place opened up in the center off of Barranca where Las Fajitas used to be... Rose Bakery and Laventina.

And I think someone said this already but Zionmart off of Jeffrey and Michelson is being replaced by Super Irvine (the one that closed near Buffalo Wings). That location keeps switching between Asian and Persian markets.

They kept the same recipe, no? Sal's is almost the same as NY Upper crust, which bought some of the old NY Upper crust locations.

That is easily my favorite 'take out' pizza. Angelina's wins for my favorite fancy pizza (RIP mozza), but Sal's (formerly NY Upper Crust) is *awesome*.
An extra large pepperoni with a side order of canolis is my pick :D

Try Bricco in Laguna Niguel for authentic Chicago thin crust (cut in squares) with Chicago Italian sausage - it’s the best I’ve found anywhere in CA.

We had dinner at Angelina in LN recently - what an incredible restaurant with stunning ocean views and great live smooth jazz. Quite an older singles scene there. I never knew they had a pizzeria in Irvine until the waitress mentioned it.
