Renters: Wimbledon Glen/Arnel Properties Robbery

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program

Yep, we have one of those classified document security safe's (surplus of course!) when the truck brought it in it took 4 guys and a VERY heavy dolly to do it. I don't think anybody is going to try to steal it anytime soon.

But then again, its not an exactly portable option.

Hi Everyone,

First of all, thank you for all of your support. It means a lot to us that there are people out there willing to lend advice and assurance.

We have some news on Arnel Properties. When our place was burglarized, we called the police and notified Wimbledon Glen/Arnel Management right away. The following day, we decided to move out. We gave Arnel the proper notification of our move and were told by the leasing personnel at Wimbledon Glen that they understood and would take care of it. Before we turned in our keys, my husband made sure to give Arnel the remainder of the information regarding the burglary, including the police report and our new address. Again, at this point, the staff at the leasing office did not offer any further assistance or information.

On April 1st, we received a letter from Arnel asking us to pay for the remainder of our lease. My husband called them immediately and tried to speak with a manager. Of course, a manager was conveniently unavailable. The following day, he received a phone call from an Arnel employee asking the details of why we moved out. My husband explained to him that it was no longer unsafe for us to live there as the BURGLARS ALSO STOLE OUR SPARE CAR KEYS. We had a one car garage and at least one of our cars was always parked outside. Furthermore, all garages were attached and could easily be accessed if one garage door was left open as there were no dividing walls in the garage we had. That meant easy access for the burglars. After hearing this, he still had the audicity to ask my husband, "Why didn't you feel safe?"

In addition to that, as Trooper mentioned, it looked like an inside job. The Costa Mesa police officers who responded to our call also made the same comment.

We've asked for the video tapes from the cameras posted at the gate and to this day Arnel has not handed them over.

Also, rumor has it that Arnel is aware of this thread as an anonymous member on Craigslist has lent a helping hand and posted ads under Wimbledon Glen and Arnel properties with a warning and a link to this site. Thank you! There are people out there who will be safer and wiser because of you.

It is unfortunate that this happened and we do not wish this on anyone. We are awaiting a response from Arnel and can only hope for the best. We have lost so many things because of this, not just material, but also our sense of security and irreplaceable family heirlooms. I will keep you all updated in what we hear. At this point, we just want to walk away and leave Arnel on a good note.

Hahaha! The employee asked, "Why didn't you feel safe?"........Somehow it brings to mind one of Clint Eastwood's quotes, "Well, do you feel lucky, punk?"

You might want to Google Arnel. They had some . . . um . . . rental deposit issues awhile back and I think it turned into class action litigation or an unfair competition claim by the state. If you find the OC Weekly (and other news articles) about the controversy surrounding George Argyros' appointment as Ambassador to Spain, they may reference it.
