Here's a fun challenge to ya'll:

Find the best lunch for $5 in Irvine!

Rules:

1) Price for the entree should be $5 or less. Free samples at Costco doesn't count.

2) Must be served at a restaurant or food vendor -- taco truck counts, but instant noodle in your kitchen doesn't.

3) The restaurant need to be in Irvine or nearby area. Tustin is OK but probably not Santa Ana.

It fills you up!</blockquote>

Subway just sucks. Plus i have heard their $5 dollar deal is a fraud as some of the sandwiches on the $5 list will cost you more than $5. I stopped going to this toilet sub shack a long time ago. Do a search on Subway corporate you will find a bunch of crooks...

You must have St. Ides confused with some lesser malt liquor like Steel Reserve or Camo. St. Ides is one of the best mainstream malt liquors. There are better malt liquors made as a specialty item by some microbreweries but they are dismissed by the true enthusiast; they aren't made for the actual ghetto consumer, they are for posers and only sold in upscale neighborhoods. While all malt liquors have that sickly sweet corn and ethanol taste, St. Ides has, in addition to that, several complex layers of flavor. It is of medium golden appearance with a thin white head that has laces slowly down the sides of the small mouth fourty ounce bottle. Head retention is excellent for a malt liquor. The smell is mostly of corn and ethanol but there is a noticable aroma of citrus, bread, and peach, although it is hard to detect out of the small mouth forty ounce bottle, especially if it is in a brown paper bag. The smell of the bag can be quite distracting. I sample in a Riedel burgundy glass to capture all the flavor and aroma. The mouthfeel is watery but less so than your typical fizzy yellow beer and it finishes slightly sour. Like many malt liquors, there is a sweet aftertaste that lingers in your mouth like diet soda. My favorite forty is still 8-ball for nostalgic reasons, but St. Ides is clearly a superior product.

Taco Factory in Tustin or on Irvine Center Drive @ Sand Canyon

Most breakfast items well under $5.00 and many of the lunch items too. Menu- of authentic tasting food -

Hahahaha. I go to the one off of Bake near Town Center so that is Foothill Ranch technically. It could have gone up too. Also, all the spicy peppers you can fit in those ketchup containers. Yum! I'll have to try the Sonoma... the Bistro Steak is good but the Italiano is sooooooooooo much better. Two Italianos seems unoriginal though.

El Pollo Loco - 2 BRC burritos with 2 Taco's al Carbone and I think 2 churro's.

McDonalds - 2 Double cheeseburgers and a small fries. That is only $3.23.

Taco Bell - 1 Bean burrito no onions. 2 soft tacos that one is $3 as well.

Quiznos has $5 foot longs.

Fresca's has a $4.95 meal going on right now.http://www.frescas.com/

Daphne's has coupons out for a $4.95 Gyro and Fries but you must have the coupon.

You can go to Yu's Garden at Jeffery and Walnut, near 99 Ranch and get a bowl of vegitarian soup for around $4.25...They have a few different soups or a 2 item combo for a little over $5 if you want to spend a little extra, but you'll be over budget a smidgen.

There is a Lee's Sandwiches also in Lake Forest on El Toro Road way behind the Johnny Rockets. I agree they have a good deal for lots of different sandwiches.

Nice marketing with lipstick;) Though it actually sounds palatable i still have flash backs when i tried to drink it a couple of years ago. I ended up pouring most of it out for my homeys. When it comes to a (Potent Potables) aka fine Malt Liquor, i favor a buzz bomb of Mickeys or Schlitz, though Colt 45 is right up there as it works every time according to Lando Calrissian...

Has anybody tried the $4 Chicken Caesar, Southwest Chicken Salad or any of the $3 sandwiches at Target?

If anybody remembers the Pain du Monde that used to be in Triangle Square that made the sauteed chicken caesar and knows where to find one like it, please PM me or post it. To this day, that location, IMHO, made the best chicken caesar. The salad was icy cold, the chicken breast still steaming from being freshly sauteed in garlic and herbs, chopped and tossed with the caesar with enough dressing to fully flavor the leaves without coating the salad in gloppy gu.

After that post, I understand how "High Gravity" got his handle.
