Property Tax Assessment

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I submitted a claim to get my property tax assessment lower for 2008 - 2009 tax year. I filed the forms last summer, was scheduled for a hearing in the next couple months. However, I got a surprise call from the county, and they told me that most of time they settle it before the hearing. His offer was less than 25000 away from what I claimed. We negotiated a little, and exchanged some comps, but it was obvious he wasn't going to change his mind. He is very nice, and easy to work with. He told me if I want to lower further, I will need to go to the hearing. $25000 difference translate into $250 of saving, and I didn't want to go to Santa Ana to fight for it. So I took the offer. As the result, I am saving $800 a year.

For your information, the county uses MLS, and they don't automatically include builder sales. If you want to include builder sales, you have to tell them exactly which house. For my situation, the guy only wants to use same track data.

Anyway, just want to share with you, in case some of you are in the same process.
