He added, “By the way, no due process. None of this is written down. There’s no rules. There’s no court. There’s no decision process. There’s no appeal. Who do you appeal to?”

Ever since the Great Debate Debacle—and its successor event, the Stephanopoulos Sit-Down That Could Have Gone Better—Joe Biden’s most fervent supporters have chosen one of two tacks. The first is full-on denial: the president is doing fine, they say! Amazing, even! Any blips in his performance were merely the result of poor preparation, or a cold, or some secret saboteur inside CNN who installed a “ghastly pallor and verbal incoherence” filter on the camera in front of him.

But in the second camp, the one not completely disconnected from reality, an arguably more disturbing idea has emerged: that Biden's fitness for office actually doesn’t matter and never has, because he has good people around him.

Is the president sane? Competent? Entirely alive? You need not ask yourself these questions, because the president is not the president; he’s just a figurehead, more of a mascot, really—like the Geico Gecko of the executive branch. The actual presidency consists of somewhere between five and 50 people, whose identities may or may not be public knowledge, who stand behind or around or sometimes on top of the president and execute the duties of the office according to their collective wisdom. Did you think, when you pulled the lever for Joe Biden in 2020, that you were actually voting for Joe Biden the singular human being? You fool. You absolute imbecile.

But if you’ve ever wondered if those folks are right—if Americans are in fact totally cool with a group of unelected officials pulling strings behind the scenes, while the man known as POTUS watches Dick Van Dyke reruns and drools contentedly into a bowl of creamed corn—may I direct your attention to one of my favorite movies, the 1993 Kevin Kline comedy Dave, in which some devious Washington insiders attempt to do exactly this?

The premise of Dave is simple. When the president has a stroke and ends up comatose, his chief of staff Bob Alexander secretly hires a body double—that’s Dave—to impersonate the president full time. Obviously, hijinks ensue (the scenes between Kline and Ving Rhames as his Secret Service agent are particularly fun) but for our purposes, what matters is Bob, a power-hungry schemer who takes advantage of the president’s incapacitation to veto bills and set agendas and generally keep his corrupt, conniving hands firmly on the levers of power.

But that’s fine, right? After all, Bob is part of the team, handpicked by the president to do exactly this; surely it would trouble nobody to learn that he’d taken over the president’s duties. Except, of course, it’s not fine—as illustrated perfectly in the moment when Dave threatens to reveal their charade to the public.

“The whole press corps is right out there,” he says. “Should I go tell them, or do you want to?”

Bob doesn’t answer. He’s trapped, he knows it—and so do we. It is impossible to watch this movie, this scene, and not understand intuitively that he can’t tell the press what he’s done. That what he’s done is a bad thing. That the American people would absolutely not be comforted by the notion of a shadowy cabal secretly running the country, while the man they voted into office lies comatose in a basement room under the White House.

That’s not what they voted for. That’s not what we vote for.

makes you wonder. I've never seen other President-elect being treated as the sitting President the moment his winning was confirmed and months before the inauguration. Both domestically and internationally. The US effectively was on autopilot and w/o her commander-in-chief for 4 years.
 
People inside the beltway knew it was Obama running the show. You would regularly see Biden administration staff visiting Obama's Kalorama home.

See this is where you are projecting. I also don't agree with the property damage or violence from the BLM riots... but you don't see me minimizing them or calling for pardons or making excuses like "no weapons" or "no one was hurt"... but then you say the BLM riots were worse. Who started rioting in the first place?

The first was for false claims of a sore loser... the other was spurred by injustice that has plagued the US for centuries... yes... no comparison. Hard to believe the claims of your family background which such narrow perspective. If you really think unverified voter fraud is a greater injustice than BLM... you are really lost.

Remember that 147 congressmen were planning to object to the official certification of electoral votes. From Ray Epps and others caught on video encouraging people to go to the Capital building to still un-named (and never arrested) people caught on video removing the barricades surrounding the Capital building, it seems that this whole event was planned and staged to create such a crisis event and the two pipe bombs appear to have been a backup crisis event that was not needed. Probably why the people pushing the J6 narrative and their media lackeys have been so uncurious about the still unidentified pipe bomber.

Since this article was written, additional people were given access to the 14,000 hours of security camera footage and discovered men wearing MAGA hats already inside the building before the first people outside entered the building. Were these the "tour guides"? One congressman said it now made sense how people knew where to go since the inside of the Capital building is as he put it "a maze". He further said that Pelosi's office does not have her name on the outside so interesting that Richard Barnett, who had never been inside the Capital building before that day but was caught on camera sitting in Pelosi's chair, knew where Pelosi's office was.

So many facts have come out over the past four years that debunk the narrative that this was an insurrection. Among these facts is a report from House Republicans that show the J6 select committee was a sham that cherry-picked information to support a narrative, engaged in witness tampering, and destroyed exculpatory evidence that did not support their narrative. Perhaps this is why so many Americans have moved on from this. The 2024 election has shown that legacy media outlets no longer control the political news narrative.

Meta scraps fact-checking program, brings back political content

“We’ve reached a point where it’s just too many mistakes, and too much censorship,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday in a video announcement. “The recent elections also feel like a cultural tipping point towards once again prioritizing speech, so we’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our polices and restoring free expression on our platforms.”

Zuckerberg said the third-party fact-checkers have been “too politically biased” and have “destroyed more trust than they’ve created, especially in the U.S.”

Meta said it will simplify its content policies by removing restrictions on subjects like immigration and gender and implement a new approach to policy enforcement that will focus on illegal and high-severity violations. The company is moving its trust and safety and content moderation teams from California, a historically Democratic state, to Texas, a historically Republican state.

“We’re going to work with President Trump to push back on governments around the world that are going after American companies and pushing to censor more,” Zuckerberg said.
