Post Close Work on New Home

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I won't lie, I cleaned up the garage in the beginning of May, and that's when we started parking our cars in the garage. We mix it up, at night we have both cars in the garage, during the day one on the driveway one in the garage (getting the 8 month old with a carseat into the car when both are in the garage is tight).

I will say most neighbors do not park in their garage, glad I have my own driveway.  Wonder if I can ask the HOA to do a random garage check for the neighborhood.

Still not understanding the need to make the garage floor look nice when your cars are parked on top of them most of the time.

The garage is an extension of the home, they need to have nice floors. And my car is like family to me, it needs a nice space to rest to ensure ultimate performance on the road :)

I think our neighborhood is 50/50. Some very nice garages, some look like crap. But it's rare to find nice garages and people that actually park IN their garages

What is the deal with not parking in the garage? Folks would rather have a car or two in the driveway and one in front of their house, than park in the garage. Very odd to me.

There were some homes in BP that had huge garages, can't remember who the builder was, but some of the models had the garage that could open in the backyard and front, and it had a ton of extra space...wish our garage was that big.

I will always park my cars in the garage. Even with two young kids (both who need car seats, etc), we park both of our cars in the garage (despite the fact that you can't actually put both kids in the car with the car seats without really pulling out of the garage slightly.  But still, it is our garage and it is nice having the cars in there.  I do wish that they made 2 car garages slightly wider given we don't have 3 car garages anymore. I think that would be a nice compromise (so people with young kids could legitimately get their kids in the cars without having to pull out (minor ask...I know).  Plus cars these days are wider, etc.

I do like how I've noticed quite a few more new homes adding at least a little "storage" space to the garages (which is quite nice).

Am I the only one that is OCD about washing my car every week and keeping it clean inside the garage. With all the construction dust outside, even if I parked outside for a couple hours during the day that thing is getting dusty.
Guess that's my OCD. I love driving a sparkling clean car around.
But seriously we should tell HOA to do a garage check because half these people park outside. AND they have like 3 or 4 cars so yeah...annoying  ::)

I used to be like that, washed my own car every week or 2, knew exactly when I got new scratches on the paint or new rock chips on the bumper. Once the wife got to about 7 months pregnant, it all went out the window. Hasn't really changed since the baby was born. Washing the cars isn't at the top of the priority list anymore.

Instead of garage check, to be fair (and for privacy), they should just issue Parking permits to park on common areas (with random check at night for those without permit).  Give two parking permits per home.  So if you only have two cars, then by all means park outside, but if you have 4 cars, better start using your garage.

The Tustin Ranch HOA we were in gave out 10 ish parking permits for the whole community at an annual cost and it was a lottery.  Everyone else park in the garage or you get towed. The streets at our old place are empty and it was awesome.  Pretty sure you could also get a permit if you had a 3rd car with a 3rd driver in the home. Strictly enforced with also an annual fee and checking of car registration/driver's license of the 3rd driver.

Some communities require you to park in the garage - so random garage check is a go! If you violate pay the fine and clean out your crap.

Boo on HOA garage check.

I think a homeowner has the right to use the garage however they like... junk, cars, epoxy, mahjong, urinal, etc.

Sure, to the extent it doesn't adversely affect neighbors.

What happen to freedom to choose. This is your house after all.

Irvine villages' HOAs include CC&Rs for the sole purpose of limiting your freedom to choose. That's a good thing.

If distaste of front yard or over grown trees then I can see it. Suppose I have two cars for weekdays commute and I have a weekend car. I should park it at a friend house then?

That is absurd!!!

I think everyone should at least be required to park one car in the garage.  NEighborhoods look less desirable with bunch of cars parked on the streets.  JUST SAYIN!

Irvine problems.
Where I grew up, most people park in the garage.  Because if it's a sought after car/car parts = parts stolen, smashed window, sitting on bricks or entire car stolen.
Back in those days kids love to steal Acura and Honda emblems, so lame...

Garage parking requirements are typically included in dense communities with no driveways and little street parking (townhomes & condos). CC&Rs in neighborhoods of single family detached homes with driveways rarely include requirements that a car, or two, be parked in the garage.

There are some people in the neighborhood that will park their 150K cars outside all the time.  That should be a crime in itself!

lol

There are more neighborhoods in southern California without CC&Rs, than with them. You're always free to choose one of these cities.

You can choose to live in my mom's neighborhood with no restrictions. Neighbors use their garages for storage and living space, definitely not cars. Front yards are used as parking spaces. A couple front yards have chain link fences with pit bulls barking incessantly. Neighbors store their trailers and RVs right in front of their houses too. It's great! Freedom never looked so beautiful!

Wow, tough crowd.  Glad I got a 3-car garage home.  haha

But you plan to park all your cars in the garage, or put them in storage  ;D

Choose to live where there is no HOA with this requirement, but imagine a motorcourt of 6 homes, each with 2 cars, with all 12 cars parked the street, now we all know there are multiple motorcourts along a street, so now we're looking 24, 36, 48? It would suck if there was no enforcement.  Someone comes home late, no parking, you know they are going to park like an ass in front of their garage since they don't care about the CC&Rs anyways.

We all chose to live here, now we have to live with the rules or break them until you get caught.  8)
