On a slightly different topic, are there any vacation places you guys have been and would absolutely never do again?

Miami/South Florida

Oooo, really? Do tell. Was it because of the weather or something else? I had been considering going there. Never been.

Everything about Miami and the surrounding areas seem too fragmented, outdated, or douchey (as someone has already mentioned).  South Beach is OK, but is over-hyped.  The beachy area seemed nice, but there are much better beaches in this country.  Walk a couple blocks from the beach and the area just seems too run-down.  The same can be said for the rest of Miami....go a couple blocks off the beaten path and it feels really sketchy.

Other than the Cuban/Latin vibe, which isn't very apparent in many parts of the city, I feel like the town lacks a strong identity.  I felt like I was in LA...and not in a good way.

Within the US -- If you want a beachy vacation -- go to Hawaii.  If you want a true urban experience, go to NYC.  History?....DC/Philly/Boston.  Scenic?  SF/Seattle (urban) or one of our national parks, like Grand Tetons/Zion/Yosemite/Yellowstone.  Miami (or LA) doesn't fit any of those criteria...but atleast LA isn't a 5-hr flight away.

Ahhh, the glow of the big orange 76 ball in your window at night is so romantic, almost like an eternal ghetto sunset.

That is the most poetic thing I have ever read on this board. You know some rapper is going to rip off socal and put that line in a song.

I went to South Korea a couple months ago and stayed 4 nights in Seoul and 2 nights in Jeju island. I got nothing much out of Jeju island, I would recommend to stay in mainland if you had only a week.

I'm not saying Jeju island is bad at or I would never go there again, it's just I would've got more bang for my time if I had stayed in mainland.

Ahhhh how I miss pastor Chuck (sniff, sniff)

Reviving this thread. Aquabliss, guess who I got to talk to in person on Saturday... Pastor Don Stewart! And then when he spoke, I kept closing my eyes like I'm listening to him on the radio then opening my eyes and seeing he's in front of me. It was very cool. He was wonderful.

Nice!  I'm sure he's a very down to earth guy, seems quite personable.  My wife watches him a lot on "World News Briefing" at hischannel.com.  His voice is also quite soothing haha.

Yeah, he was nice to me and he ate lunch with my husband. As you know, he's a really smart guy. As we were following along in our Bibles, we noticed the text he was reading didn't match our version, NKJV, word-for-word. So, I tried KJV, NIV, NLT... nothing, nothing. Then a few more. (I had every version with me since we also have a Bible app on our phone in addition to our "hard copies".) Nothing. After the men's conference was over, our youth ministry leader mentioned to us that the words Don was reading didn't match his Bible. He went up to look over Don's shoulder and that's when he realized the scripture was in Greek! Don was doing his own live Greek to English translation on the spot. Haha.

About vacations: Best hotel near SFO? Never been. Thinking of planning a family trip for this spring.

Why not the city?  Airport area not much to see or do, unless you're visiting somebody.

Sure, in the city would be fine. When I posted, I hadn't yet realized that the airport is a half hour away from the city but I see that now after looking it up. I thought it was closer. I want to be in that direction anyway so we can do all the touristy stuff. I really want to go to Alcatraz. Also, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate bridge, the painted ladies, blah, blah, blah...

You got any favorite hotels?

Fairmont is my favorite hotel in SF.  It's a bit of a walk to the touristy areas but you can uber for cheap to get to the touristy stuff.  :)
