Overtaxed In Irvine? Property Tax adjustments

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program

Don't know if any of the rest of you have been reviewing the numbers for property taxes but they are way out of line for most of the parcels I'm coming across, lately.

Pretty much anyone who's purchased since 2004 is likely getting overtaxed based on the simple 2% raise (Prop 13) each year that is on autopilot from the assessor's office. To get a reassessment, it's a fairly easy process:

1. OC has an online e-form : OC Property Tax Assessment Appeal Form

2. You also need supporting evidence of comparable sales numbers from the first three months of the year.

The difference on $200K of assessed value is pretty good chunk, which we could just as well be spending on gas right now. I'm not looking for a cut of that $$$, but I am looking for good mojo and referrals if you know anyone looking for RE help now or in the future.

If you send a request including:

current address

beds

baths

sqft

year built

contact email address

I'll send you back the comps that the assessor's office needs to see.

My promise: No spam, no mailing list, just a one-time service as promised. Kinda like the Baskin-Robbins "pink spoon" approach.

-Thx

Late addition:

Please PM with your contact email address of choice as I've not been able to send MLS data through to IHB handles.

Also, would appreciate + and - feedback from you.

-Thx again

Help, help, I'm being oppressed! Come and see the violence that's inherent in the system!

Alternately: Oppressed? I do not think that word means what you think it means.

I don't know if that is a Three Amigos reference, or a Princess Bride allusion. Either way, I'm on board.

Definitely Princess Bride.

BTW, and I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I'm a firm believer that if anyone gets a sale or other revenue from a lead generated off this site, Zovall ought to get some spiff out of it. The servers don't pay for or maintain themselves. Of course, I probably didn't even need to say it because you seem like an upstanding person who would have recognized that on his/her own.

Eva, it a well know fact that the intarweb is free.

When Al Gore invented the internet with me, our intention was to keep everything free. But no good deed goes unpunished. Much is indebted to Ipop and IR already.

I'll second this...he emailed the comps to me within minutes. Thanks, IR2!

The County is currently working on property tax adjustments. You don't need to fill out any forms. You'll automatically get an adjustment on your next tax bill. The percentage of the adjustment depends on where you live and the local comps.

Patience is a virtue.

i hope so... although if i had to bet that the county's adjustment is too small or right on as the mkt suggest, i would go with too small. they went with the max raise in 2007.

Anon,

I also received the notice that they'd be working on tax adjustments, but would like to know exactly how that will be taking place. Isn't there a conflict of interest? I'd rather do a small amount of legwork for them to show empirically what a property was worth, than trust a large government body to act in my best interests in a timely fashion.

I wouldn't let just any old humorless, personality-less, not-living-in-reality-and-still-guzzlin'-koolaid kind of realtor hang around this blog. IR2 has a lovely measure of snark about him as well...

He has kindly and efficiently fed me all the closing data I have and for that he gets major kudos. I think ten should send him an Axe gift basket so he can work the bom chicka wah wah!
