What choices have folks made for granite countertops and hardwood floors if getting standard white cabinets.  Any respectable hardwood floor companies that people have had good experience vs. going with builder which I hear can be expensive?

Personal choice, especially with granite.  I like the look of a darker hardwood with white cabinetry.  You should go with what YOU like.

It seems that for wood flooring, most people recommend venetian flooring systems or simple floors in orange. Venetian is closed these days as they are outside US for an international project.  They will be back at the end of this month.

I have white cabinets as well and I am struggling to choose a floor color because you want to stay away from dark color floors but those would look best in contrast to white cabinets. Darker floors are more maintenance to clean than lighter floors and show dust. I have been trying to find a middle shade in between but it has not been an easy process.

I recommend downloading the smart phone app Houzz or visiting their website athttp://www.houzz.com.

They have great professional looking photos and staged rooms that will help inspire you with ideas.

We've had good luck with Belmont Flooring on State College for our wood floors.  We used them twice in the last 10 years.  Very nice people.

Re: countertop color--  consider the amount of light coming in from adjacent windows, as well as lighting above when choosing your countertops.  Darker colors can really absorb the light, making the room feel much darker-  even with white cabinets.  Especially if you have a big island and dark wood floors.

It's all personal preference for you...My wife wanted white on white...so we picked a white granite.  I personally wanted a black granite to contrast, but wife wins most design arguments.

So because we went white on white, we picked darker floors.  Although now we started to pick out furniture my wife isn't digging the dark floors as much because we end up liking dark furniture.  Things to keep in mind as well when picking stuff out.

I went with Venetian, and they did an amazing job.  He did two of my neighbors and they are extremely happy with them as well.  Not sure about their pricing since I did my floors back in April.  I'm assuming they raised their prices like everyone else.

Inside Sausalito they had a dark stained French Oak, which I wish I saw when doing my floors.  Really really like that floor.

Hi Broda,

Roughly how much did they charge and how big was your space? How long did it take them to finish the job? Thank you in advance!

I personally went with bianco romano granite and provenza african plains "black river" wood floors.  The wood is a cracked, hand scraped, distressed type of look, so I never really have to worry about the nuances that come with the smooth, high polished hardwood floors.  Have fun!

To give you an idea of cost...Venetian was $3000 cheaper than the builder's price for the exact same floor.  Venetian included my storage closet and coat closet for me where the builder said it would cost me an additional $900 for the storage and $250 for the coat closet. so I guess total savings was about $4100.  Too be honest I forgot how much sq ft is the downstairs...i've moved on to landscaping sq footage.  Maybe it's about 1100 sq ft?

Can't really tell you how much it's going to cost you.  It's going t be based on the type of wood you selected.  Lets say you went with a Provenza French oak, when I was shopping that was going to be about $12 per linear foot. IP was charging $15 per linear foot.  I went with a hybrid/engineered wood to withstand the little ones going ape on the floor.  That ran me about $9 per linear foot.  IP's price for this was $12 per linear foot.

Time line...he finished it within a day.  Again this depends on a lot of things.  Type of wood...I picked a extra wide plank type hardwood....if you pick the really narrow ones, could take longer.  My downstairs was mostly carpet and vinyl (standard floor from IP). Very easy to demo...ripped everything out within an hour.

I like the wood accent wall.  I spoke to the Venetian Flooring guy and he gave me the "bitter beer" face when I said I wanted a wood accent wall....lol

There was one 'wood accent wall' in either Arcadia Stonegate or the new Woodbury tract and I thought they were actually tiles that had wood pattern so it looks like wood.  My wife made me took some pictures as 'future possible idea'.  They look nice.

I wonder how much this client paid TSI Design.  Actually, does anyone know how much it would cost to pay an interior designer (but not find the furniture), more so just for design concept of interior.....
