Oxford #1 cypress
Troy#2 Fullerton
Middle College #3 Santa Ana
Northwood #4 Irvine

The latter 3 did not influence home prices what so ever.

The first one didn't either.  I lived 2 block from Oxford previously.  The home value has not got up to previous peak like Irvine did, and it only get back to about 2004's level.

This is probably because Oxford Academy takes the top students through out the entire Anaheim school district,  your kids are not guarantee to get in even you live in Cypress.

I wonder why those K-8 schools are unranked even though they have decent API scores?

Surprise... and Irvine school gets number 1: Stonegate Elem.

The only other IUSD in the top 10 was Stonecreek at 4.

I thought those were charter schools thus selective and not really nearby residents.

The Oxford Academy is a public school of Anaheim Union School District.  It only take the top selective student from cities withing its boundary (Anaheim, Buana Park, La Palma, Cypress and Stanton).  I believe an exam is required.

The school is pretty impressive consider its student pool, it rank #2 for California and rank #17 in the nation with API of 995 in 2012.http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/california

I remember a while back reading that they exclude them because of the grade mix. I think they get included in the middle school report.

Thank you.  I've noticed the one that our kids go to (The one with a V in it;  :P} is ranked decently for middle school like you mentioned.  I hope they can include these schools in future rankings.  Need all the help to keep up the property value right?  :P

I personally think that the rankings are pretty unreliable.  Instead of ranking them, it makes more sense to just categorize schools into certain groups.  The fact that Stonegate is no. 1 does not mean (at least to me) that somehow the school is better than Woodbury or Canyon View.

What does matter is perception.  For the same reason why US News ranking of college is so influential, there people who are looking to buy homes and raise kids put a lot of stock into the rankings.  Just like people clamor to get into the "right" preschools, you can bet that there are plenty of parents who will try to get their kids into Stonegate (or other top ranked elementary schools).  That works well for me as a homeowner in Stonegate.
