I lost the battle on this one. I wanted single but wife insisted on double. She has to have one where you can put dirty dishes and the other just for rising. I hate the fact that I can't wash pots and pans in a tiny cramped space. She doesn't get it coz she never washes pots and pans, those are left for me to do.

As for porcelain, looks pretty but we were told it stains pretty easily. So if you leave something there (like maybe some drops of pasta sauce), tough stain to get out. I for one am guilty of not scrubbing the sink.  >:D

First the wood tile. Now the sink. We know who wears the pants in your relationship ;)

I think I read it in this forum that happy wife = happy life..  I choose my battle and kitchen area is really her territory and mostly a don't care for me .. I'm savings my chips for other sections of the house (e.g. garage, yard)

I love having single basin; I will never go back to a double basin. Allows a lot of versatility.

We have porcelain, haven't had a problem with stains. There's a reason it's called Bar-Keeper's FRIEND!

Another problem with single basin is what if you need to use the sinkerator/disposal? Where you put all the dirty stuff in there?

Easy. With an off-set drain like mine and the one pictured, you just work on the left side of the sink and access the disposal on the right. I can fit a 9x13 pan front to back. But even when the sink gets full, the drain is still not obstructed if you use a sink rack. Everything just rinses directly under as the dirty items sit up & off the bottom. Voila.

We've got the fireclay butler farmhouse sink from Overstock. I can't remember the exact size that we got but it looks like this: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Fireclay-Butler-Large-29.5-inch-Kitchen-Sink/6467219/product.html?refccid=WA4OPVPMKUII2P2O7HNG2TYM2Q&searchidx=0

At our old condo, we had the standard dual sink, which my wife hated, since we could not fit larger pots and pans. The large farmhouse sink fixes that issue. Since there is now only one drain, that one drain also has the hookup for the garbage disposal. As far as complaints go, the only complaint I have is that I find that water bounces off the sink more, such that I get much more water "overspray" on the counters and floors.

There is a garbage disposal hooked up to the Fireclay sink?? I was told that it would have to be one or the other - disposal or Fireclay. Because the Fireclay would fracture from the vibration of a garbage disposal so it's not supposed to be used with one. I couldn't imagine life without a garbage disposal so I picked that and switched sinks. Also, easier to cut the cabinet for a Kohler - less guesswork and they are self-rimming.

And... what if you have pots/dishes/bakeware soaking? You can't use your kitchen sink if it's a single.

Just like I prefer to have dual master sinks (and dual sinks in the kids' bathroom), I prefer double bowl for utilitarian reasons.

Just my opinion... no real right or wrong here.

The sink and garbage disposal were all installed at the time we remodeled our kitchen (around July or August of last year) and our contractor did not mention any potential issues with having both the fire clay sink and a disposal. Now I'm going to have to look into this!

"Any waste-king garbage disposal - with waste-king / Anaheim EZ mount flange with work for this sink. Flange must be their EZ mount flange. A metal flange will not work for this sink"

That's from Overstocks item description.  Hope you got the right waste disposal.
