So what are you hoping for?

Apple has to walk a fine line between not alienating their core customers and appealing to new customers who are used to larger screens and more complicated interface.

It will be interesting...FWIW, Apple stock is down a little this morning

Apple needs to release a 4.5-5" screened phone.

They should have done it this year but I understand they are trying to stick with a 2-year form factor/style cycle (which follows phone contracts). I do think that's a smart way to go since it keeps accessories viable longer and doesn't alienate the consumers every year.

The big hardware difference in the 5S is the rumored fingerprint scanner on the home key. I hope it's more than just that, if you can do swipe gestures with the home key, that would be a plus.

I was planning on just getting the 5C but rumors seem to indicate that there will be enough differences between the 5S and the 5C so that the nerd in me will want the 5S.

The new Galaxy Note 3 has me drooling too... decisions decisions.

Screen size is one of those things I was talking about Apple having to walk a fine line...some people don't like large screens...a lot of Apple users are fine with the smaller screens because it's more compact.

Yeah... I don't mean to replace the smaller iPhones, just add a new iPhone line like they did with the iPad Mini, just call it the iPhone XL (or next year, the iPhone 6L).

It's hard to have multiple tiered phones when you don't control manufacturing or parts like Apple.  I think that the new iphone will be 4.5 inches and the mini will be 3.5-4"

So it looks like we have most of the info out now:

Two models: 5S and 5C. Pre order for 5c September 13th (not sure about the 5s) and store sales for both is September 20th.

Starting prices for 5c is $99 and $199 for 5s.

5s gets new A7 processor, M7 motion sensing coprocessor, updated camera with burst mode, slow motion video capture, 2 LED, and larger sensor. iOS7 will use 64 bit technology. Touch ID uses fingerprint technology to unlock phone and allows you to purchase on the app store. Colors for 5s: Gold, Gray, or White. No more Black.

iOS7 will be released September 18th along with iRadio. It will be ad free if you have subscription to iTunes Match.

A lot more meh...64 bit chip is cool but not really a big deal on a phone.  Everything is pretty much catch-up and same screen size.

5c look meh as well...$30 for the color case?

Man... $199 for a 16GB 5S... doesn't Apple understand if you don't have an SD card slot and your screen is still small, at least bump up the entry-level memory.

The 32GB 5C for $199 is better... but I'd rather have that 64-bit processing and optical home button (interestingly enough, the second wave of Android phones had optical touch pads, Blackberries too).

But the 4's screen is so... small.

On 2nd thought... I may be able to do without all the 5s "updates"... too bad they don't make it in black or silver.

Oh... and I guess it looks like Apple can't even keep a secret anymore.

I find it funny that no one really knew what the new Galaxy phones would look like (esp the Note 3's stitched leather-looking plastic) but no real surprise what the new iPhones would look like, even down to the colors.

The biggest hits on cloud:

1. Not many carriers do unlimited data
2. Wireless data is not available everywhere (like planes)
3. The data that takes up the most space, like videos and movies, tend not to stream well over data connection
4. Cloud security

Most phones that have SD cards are usually behind the battery cover so they won't go flying anywhere. The benefit of SD cards is swapability and they are really cheap compared to what Apple is charging... less than $20 per 32GB.

Looks like I'm due for an upgrade at the $199 starting point.. leaning towards the space gray 16g iPhone 5s...so now all my accessories are kaput due to the new connector?  that's annoying..so new radio, new car charger, new battery back up thingy...

Yeah... the accessory thing is a bummer but considering we are going to trade in our 3G, 4, 4S and iPad for a Mini, a Touch and at least one iPhone 5S, we'll all convert to lightning.

iHome has a new clock radio that connects to both the old and new connector.

I'm still debating whether to get the 5s since it is so similar to the 5. I like the new finger print scanner and upgraded camera. The 64 bit sounds good in theory but I am not sure about real world benefits. Wish there was a 128 GB option and larger screen, maybe iPhone 6?

Even without the new hardware, iOS7 should be a great upgrade for existing Apple customers and it will be free. If you are a Android user, not so much.

Well...since Android OS is more dynamic and functional than iOS7...I'm okay with it.

Just a thought.. if someone steals my iPhone 5s...they will have to take my fingerprints too  :-\

I want to keep my fingers...

Checked out Apple's website tonight--looks like 9/13 pre-order is only for the 5c model. Get ready to stand in line if you want to be first with a 5s--it will go on sale at the store and online on 9/20. No pre-order for 5s.

It's very interesting how Apple sells their iPhone.

The last 2 years they did pre-orders but as a result, the lines (and hype) weren't as large. So now, because it is a refresh, they don't allow pre-orders but for their new "low-cost" model, they do so they can gauge interest.

Personally, I hate having to line up for a phone... or not being able to walk into a store and be able to buy it right there because they sold out... but that's what you get with Apple.
