Mr. and Mrs. GH,
Sorry to hear about your disaster.  We used OCmovers and had a pretty good experience.  It took 3 guys x 9 hours.  A couple dings on the wall, two missing screws, one broken container, but nothing major.

The W/D connection usually is complimentary but not guaranteed so you can mention it to the owner but they will not do anything on it.

I left my fridge for the tenants because I worry about them damaging the wall/door/countertop when they move in and out.  Glad I did after reading your story.

You really should complain to the owner.  If anything at least to get it off your chest.  If it happened to me, my husband would probably let it slide also but I wouldn?t.  What?s the point of hiring a professional mover if they are going to do so much damage?

I hate to think that there may be more damage to come as you unpack/set up your furniture.

Good luck.

I also used OC Movers (Affordable Moving & Storage of OC), Scott's (the owner) wife use to work at my place.  They come highly recommended from people at my work.  My movers Hugh and his team were awesome.  They wore booties in my house and they were very careful moving my stuff.  I had already placed flooring protection down but they had blankets which was also laid on the floor to protect it from dripping water from the washer.  Hopefully, my experience with OC will be just as good next month.

GH, I hope you get things worked out and thanks for letting us know about Mission.

qwerty is back, im only happy when IHO and wastoldtochangemyname are happy.

but ill leave the batman avatar as a reminder to the lovely ladies of TI.

I guess I don't deal well with username changes. :(

Yeah, I get it. Like when you went from irvine_home_owner to irvinehomeowner, it really gutted me. I barely slept for a week afterward.

I read the story again and it doesn't sound good.
I would see if you can get reimbursed for the extra cost you had to pay. But 1k for the move (say what!), sounds high. It all depends on the distance from your place, how many boxes/things you have, and if the movers moved at a fast pace.

You should get your washer and dryer checked or at least try it. Try asking for a full refund. ;)

Anyone reading this that needs a mover, I highly recommend using Safeway Movers in Lake Forest and ask for the 2 man team Ken and Gary.  I moved twice in 6 months and these guys moved me both times, they were freaking amazing.

Up and down stairs, around corners, through garages... Zero scratches on my walls, I never even heard a bump on any walls whatsoever.  They disassembled and put furniture back together as needed, wrapped everything in blankets in the truck, took almost no breaks besides lunch.

I have no affiliation with these guys but just trying to help TI members avoid a disaster like this.  I bought them breakfast and lunch and tipped them but it was well worth it, they are very conscientious and do a great job.

So um, it turns out I used affordable moving. (Two thumbs up - good service)

So I retract my statement before, I never used mission movers. All the name sound a like moving/movers blah blah

Please use this sitehttp://www.cpuc.ca.gov/PUC/CEC/z_cpucconsumers/d_movers.htmand click on "List of Companies" link to verify moving company.  check their license and workers comp because you dont want the headache if movers injuries themselves.
I couldn't find ABC Moving on that site.
here is couple tips:
1. Disassemble your own beds before they arrive.
2. Pack everything.
3. Move big/heavy items to new house locations (bedroom, living room).
4. Move light items to new house garage because you can move them yourselves
Agreed.

I would actually only have them move things we couldn't ourselves (furniture, appliances and boxes). Usually, all our clothes in our closets we do on our own.

Type in "ABC" and choose "Los Angeles" as county.  Their MTR number is MTR0190430

On my mover contract:
1. Free Basic Coverage at 60 cents per pound per article ensures recovery at 60 cents multiplied by the weight of the item or the carton it?s packed in.  Thus, if an item weighing 20 pounds is lost or damaged, you can recover $12.00 for that item (60 cents x 20 pounds).  This is very minimal protection and your goods are probably worth considerably more.  This protection is included in the mover?s rate.  Most local moves use this type of insurance.

2.  Actual Cash Value protection ensures recovery at the actual cash value (i.e., fair market value) of your lost or damaged item(s), up to the total value you declare.  The carrier may charge for actual cash value protection, and will state the rate on the Agreement.  Jewelry, coins and stamps are not insurable.  Internal derangements of TV?s, clocks, computers, pianos or appliances are covered without external damage to such equipment.  Touch up and repair for minor damages will be done by the moving company if needed.

Cash Value Options:

1)      Minimum coverage is $10,000.  This policy can be purchased for an additional $375.  This policy does have a $500 deductible.  Items to be insured must be listed and inspected before the move begins; this is part of the contracted time.  The list and values must be submitted to sales@ocmover.com before the move begins.  This insurance covers furniture items, not fine jewelry coins or boxed items.  Items boxed by customer are not part of the coverage.
2)      Maximum coverage is $20000.  This policy can be purchased for an additional $485.  This policy does have a $500 deductible.  If more value is needed, please contact our office at 714 832-5950 to get a quote.

Huh?

Curious what would it cost you to do a DIY move-- renting a large truck and four laborers for 9 hours?
Well I used affordable movers! I think I paid $300-$400 for 3 hours included a truck.

Like I previously said: if they had bunch of stuff it will take long or the movers weren't fast enough. (I don't know)

I totally agree.. This is my first time to move using movers.  The last few times I moved on my younger days, I usually just ask a few friends to help me move.. Most of my stuff then fit in a borrowed van or pickup truck plus a utility trailer for furniture.  Even with only little stuff to move, there would always be a furniture that would break (or part of it), wall scratched etc  (don't really care then as those are only rented apartments).. so I know the effort it takes to move heavy stuff without getting damage here and there.

This is also part of the reason why I am hesitant to really push hard for huge refund or compensation (I would hate for the owner to take on the movers considering they could be college students just looking for extra income).  Although, they did not do their  job very well, I still think they deserve to be compensated for the hard labor they did.
