Safeway's quote, 3 hr min at $120/hr, 1/2 hr drive time, $40 fuel charge for a 3 man team with truck..

I used Safeway last week (based on SoCal's review as well as the Yelp reviews).  It was $85/hr with a 3 hr min for a 2 man team with truck + $40 fuel charge.  They did a good job although I was surprised to see the truck was actually a pickup + trailer.  It could be because our place wasn't that big.  They were helpful on the phone as well which wasn't the case when I called a couple other places to get quotes.

Booked Lucky Moving, their rate came out cheaper even with the extra fuel charge.  Should be $380 + $90 + $30 tip = $500

Safeway would be $480 + $60 + $40 + $30 tip = $610

If cutting it down to 3 hr, Safeway would be $490, so an extra $10 gets me another Lucky hr :)

Cmon PS9 - step your game up. $30 tip on $380 is less than 8%, these guys are busting their ass with your stuff for 4 hours.  Im just giving you hard time.  What prompted my response though is this does remind me of inequity in tipping though, which is something i never understood. A couple will spend $200 on nice dinner and tip a waiter $40 for coming over a couple of times during your dinner and bringing you refills or whatnot for an hour/hour and a half. The same couple will leave the hotel cleaning $2-3 for cleaning their hotel room, $10/person for 4 hours of manual labor.

you guys get the idea, the tipping system is backward! We tip the people who actually deserve more less and vice versa.

So what's a Qwerty "high roller" tip?

i would tip each guy $40 ($10/hour) - i dont view it as a high roller tip though, just showing appreciation for the people who do the hard work - working as a mover is $ucking rough job. With that said, they get the full tip as long as they do the job i expect, which is not to break my $hit. That extra $120 i spend on the tips is going to help those guys out much more than keeping it in my bank account.

+1  I'll also pick up lunch for them too if they are doing a good job.

Interesting to see what people tip :)

For our move, I picked up lunch for them and tipped $20 per person.

Try  "ABC Moving Center", which has a great review in Yelp.

I used them back 2 years ago and had no issues, they were very professional and did manage to move my 1 bedroom very fast.

thinking about using them again for upcoming moving. recently brought a condo in Irvine.

Went with another company instead

Alex Huang US moving company, based out of la puente.  They charge $95/hr for 3men and truck, fuel was $40, and only a 3 hr minimum.  They have no yelp nor Angie's list reviews.  My extended family has used them many times during their move, that was good enough for me, and can't beat the price.  Move was around 6 hrs!  Can't believe I have so much crap.  They took one short break and another for lunch which they later subtracted out of the total time.  Couple of minor dings but overall not too bad, would use them again.  All three spoke English well and were friendly, of course YMMV.  Bought them lunch and gave a qwerty tip :) they were very thankful and I was grateful for their hard work.

Thanks for the recommendation.  Will be using them very soon  :D

PS9: You didn't call the Homer & IHO Moving Company? We'll just stand around and tell you where to move the stuff. :)

When you say "minor dings" what does that mean?

Tell the resale inventory to go up... or TIC to make better floorplans.
