Men's Watches - what are you wearing?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I stopped wearing a watch in 1999 or 2000 because I always had a cell phone around.

Recently I took to wearing them again because I use the secondhand as a 'randomizer' for playing poker (I use it to mix up my play.) I'm currently wearing a very vintage all plastic w/stainless back plate DKNY Active. Not because it's cool, but because the battery isn't dead.

I still have my collection of well worn vintage swatches from the 1980's. Someday I'll buy a couple of new bands and batteries and start wearing them two at a time again. It'll go well with my pink RL polo.

Big G, I had one of these

But I lost it...

Oh well, easy come easy go *shrug*

Conversation continues...

skek: But honey... the high end watch market is immune, they always go up and value, and they aren't making any more of these watches.

mrs. skek: WTF? Have you been drinking the Kool-Aid again?

skek: Seriously, PeterUK used to have one, but he lost it, so it is even more rare and will surely see double digit appreciation rates for years to come.

mrs. skek: (In tears) OMG! Get out! You have been drinking the Kool-Aid. You said you would never drink it again. Just get out! You need to get help.

My couch is really comfy, and you are more than welcome to crash on it. We will just wait until Wall St. starts dropping fat bonus money again, and sell the watch to some trader who made a few lucky trades. By then it will be worth enough for you to buy a place in Shady outright with the cash from the watch. See... all will be good again. Plus, with that watch and the Spyker, you will have plenty of women pawning themselves to be the next mrs. skek. Although I am sure none will ever live up to the current mrs. skek. But you will have a cool watch and car!

I feel sorry for all the people reading this who don't appreciate exactly how badly you are hallucinating, so instead I'll paint a hypothetical for you:

mrs. skek: Honey, why is there a half a million dollar charge on our credit card bill?

skek: Oh, that was for my new watch. Some nutter on the internet said it was befitting my stature.

mrs. skek: Is that nutter going to let you sleep on his couch when I divorce your ass, muther&#$%@*#!

Sorry, Graph. No PTR for me.

Skekster, I just ordered one from the US on my British Barclaycard, I really scored, $500k is only ?127.00, oh, and I got free shipping too!!

:-)

Indeed, graph, I assure you that mrs. skek is not replaceable -- not even for an Aston Martin with a trunk full of those watches, parked in the driveway, er, motorcourt (must use my MLS-speak) of a Shady Canyon custom. As anyone who knows us will attest, I married well out of my league and couldn't hope to replicate that success again.

Well, despite our differences, you and I have something in common. We are both with a woman who is out of our league, couldn't be replaced, and there is very, very slim chance that we could ever replicate that kind of success.

But, you do have to get off the Aston Martin fetish and upgrade to the Spyker. If you are going to dream about toys, then you should dream big.
