Wife was sick on Valentine's due to stomach flu, so we opted to do the V-day + B-day dinner last weekend with our friends.  Mastro's had imported Kobe beef for $100/8oz or $150/12oz.  We've only had Kobe beef in much smaller and thinner slices at Japanese restaurants.  The steak was delicious but way too fatty and rich.

i love their pretzel bread so good. their sweet potato fries are insane and creamed corn are insane. no words can describe the butter pound cake.  i never finish the steak cause im so full from everything else.

Always a good choice for special occasions. I used to order only ribeye but it was too fatty for my taste. I now order their fillet--very tender and nice meat flavor.

went to the Beverly Mastros.. way better.  I don't think I can go back to Costa Mesa.

I smell a FCB.

I am curious about the Ocean Club in Newport Beach...also a Mastro's.  I have hear excellent things about that place.

Also...by comparison, what do you guys prefer:  Flemings, Mastro's, Ruth Chris, or Morton's.  There is also the Palm but I have not gone there.

I love Mastro's.  Fleming was also good when we went.  Haven't gone to the other two in awhile...Morton's is somewhat hit and miss.

Do you guys go here with your wives?  I've actually never been.  Steak on date night is so not appealing to me.

They have more than steaks...excellent seafood as well.  Not all that kid friendly though.

No wives allowed, especially at the Newport Coast/Crystal Cove Mastros....too much eye candy over there.  haha

Hmm ok will have to check it out.  Qwerty had me at creamed corn.  How does it compare to Luger's in NYC (for those that have been to both)?

I've had Lugers a few times and I still prefer Mastros for some odd reason.  Gotham in NY though... me rikeeeeyyy!

My kids have been to both the Costa Mesa and Newport locations. They love the overpriced buttered pasta and ice cream.

Newport has nicer views (location and people watching) and more seafood options. Food quality is the same at both.

ive been to all three (newport, costa mesa and beverly hills) i thought the food quality was consistent throughout. I would rank them as follows: Mastros, Ruths Chris, Mortons and Flemings. I think the best ambiance is at the one in newport.

before the baby my wife and i would go here pretty frequently (newport location). i go to the one in beverly hills if its work related or going out with friends as most of them are in LA.  My wife loves the thick, big piece of meat  ;)
