South coast plaza is by far the best mall around for actual shopping. Not great food selection though. Although Anqi has great garlic noodles and sliders.

Marche Moderne is one of our favorite lunch spots, the $20-25 prix fixe lunch is great.  Unless the chef goes too spanish chorizo/paprika flavor heavy on the food, usually a good meal.

It's kind of funny to see guys talking about which mall is best. I've never known any man to like the mall. Mr. SoCal's idea of a good time is definitely not going shopping with me... unless it's to Micro Center or Fry's! He's always up for that. :P I don't think I've even been to S.C.P. since the 90's!

I wonder how much business that Nordstrom actually does. Maybe they could be on the chopping block next. I rarely go in there anymore. The main problem is the lack of selection. Even that Macy's, as much as it pales in comparison to other Macy's, has 100x better selection than that Nordstrom. When I do go in there, it's a ghost town. You could hear a pin drop. Despite that, it's sometimes hard to get help. The employees I've come across do too much socializing with each other and not enough working. It's like, ok, let me wait while you finish your conversation about some dude who texted you and then text the guy back before I can ask if you have this in a different color. No, thanks. I'll sometimes go in that Nordstrom only if it's something I'm 100% sure they'll carry and can ring me up without much hassle. I have a thing for nice perfume. But even with that, there are other options. Last but not least, they've axed the live piano players. That was the last straw.  :P
I have the opposite impression. I always thought Macy's was dead (when it first was put in as the Robinson May I never understood...maybe cause my wife nor I nor anyone I really know goes to the Spectrum to truly shop...more eat food, walk around, catch a movie, maybe window shop, but not shop like you do elsewhere. That said the Nordstrom has been relatively crowded when I've gone in (nothing like South Coast Plaza's, but still much better than Macy's...that Macy's reminded me of a JC Penney).

Target doesn't do bad either, presumably given the fact that it is the closest option for all the apartments surrounding the spectrum.

SoCal, once you go S.C.P you'll never go back to anywhere else. Just try it! I love that place and know people that drive from the I.E. Here on the weekends just to shop at S.C.P. That said go on weekdays because weekend crowds are ridiculous!

SCP has a ding tai fung. Mmmmm.... And lots of things are written in chinese now along with chinese speaking sales staff. Good place for FCB to relax from all the house shopping  ;D

Just left Macy's. Crazy. If you plan to go, you will want a head's up on a few things. On phone now. Will post tips and pics when I get to a computer.

I used to hang out at Cerritos Mall years ago when it still had an arcade and bookstore.  Also shopped at Best and Fedco nearby.  Fond memories of watching "Rambo" at the movies there.

LOL you just dated yourself!

Don't forget Gemco.

I remember Fedco now the giant Target across the street from mall and Best now Burlington also across from the mall.

TIC is closing Macy's to make way for more tchotchke stores like these?

The Irvine Spectrum Center is adding two new stores to its lineup. They are:

BoxLunch: This a gift and novelty retailer features licensed shirts, accessories, home goods and more.

?We have curated some of the most unique product offerings of licensed pop culture collectibles from hit movies and TV shows to your favorite local sports team, said Robert Thomsen, vice president and general manager of Merchandising and Marketing, in a statement.

For every $10 spent, BoxLunch will provide a meal for someone in need with Feeding America.

The Irvine Spectrum marks BoxLunch?s second Orange County store.

Location: across from Planet Beauty and the Apple Store.

Honey & Butter will open its first brick-and-mortar location in the spring. The store is known for its cartoon character macaroons that include pandas and Star Wars characters. There also will be ice cream sandwiches.

Prices at the store are $2 and up for macaroons. Flavors include Sea Salted Caramel, French Toast, Cookie Butter, Nutella and more.

?We use buttercream as opposed to white chocolate in our fillings, and because of that, our flavors are less sweet and more pronounced. We also have our own recipe for our macaroon shells, which contain less sugar than other recipes,? said Leanne Pietrasinski in a statement.

Location: next to Old Navy.

Pretty sure TIC didn't close Macy's. I think the closure has much more to do with Macy's cutting back / struggling and thus dealing with multiple store closures.  I'm going to presume that between the Mission / South Coast Plaza / Spectrum locations, the easy choice was to dump the Spectrum location.
