[quote author="CK" date=1254454259]BTW, the big dude in the video is the same guy IR2 and I met at the Kogi stop in Orange a couple of months back, who told us that they were planning to go big in OC (see earlier posts). Guess he wasn't lying.</blockquote>

You know he's a vegan? We were talking about it last time I saw him. Somebody asked if something was Vegan and he said no. I responded "Hey, you're a vegan too?" he was like "huh?" and I said "Yea! Chicken, pork, and beef are all vegetable based! All vegan!" and he started laughing.

Kogi Can't compete with the Irvine Baja Fresh Kogi instant food without having to wait. Irvinites live with instant gratification and high velocity and have little patience for the 2 hour tacos. Irvine does not meet their demographic. I was the last in line in Irvine and waited for 1-1/2 hour. No one lined up after me and thought waiting this long was crazy. In 1-1/2 hour the Kogi buisiness was finished. To sustain a profitable location there has to be a constant flow of customers for the entire 2-1/2 hours.

The Mexicans were too afraid to come to Irvine at night.

I think that had more to do with that "Suspected Icicle Assassin" poster circulating around Orange County.

Ha -- funny. As the self appointed poster boy for most things Irvine, I was about to post on this thread that I made my second trip to Baja Fresh Kogi for lunch yesterday, and got three tacos. They seem to be perfecting their product --- I noticed it was much better (and much closer) to the Kogi truck version yesterday than it was two weeks ago. And I walked right up to the counter at 11:55am --- no wait.

My co-worker (Costa Mesa resident) asked as we were pulling into the parking lot "Did we just drive over by your house, is this where Ralphs is?" I'm like "not even close". She said "oh yeah, I forgot --- everything looks the same in Irvine".

Viva la Irvine!!!
