After just a year at the east coast I can honestly say the smaller private colleges really care about about each student and nurture them as a family member. This may not be important for many Irvine parents since the kids only purpose is to learn and get that shiny diploma. So who care about the nurturing part.
Private schools shape personality, character, instill confidence and leadership because many schools cap their freshmen class to about 1,500 so the professors can have personal interaction with each students. Class sizes rarely exceed 20 students. Direct interactive dialogs and communication enforce learning and afford immediate real life application.
Many of tomorrow's US presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretary of states and chief of justice came from these private institutions and so did countless of entrepreneurs.
The CSUF will have few of its own success stories and students will go on to live successful and happy lives and continue to have good bonuses from mid management duties. However few will become tomorrow's leaders.
A major part of college is a life experience, friendship and then school studies. Private schools employed a holistic admission process to cherry pick a diverse student body from all 50 states and 150 foreign countries. The cultural, racial, ethnic and political diversities broaden my daughter's horizon and her global awareness. Her best knowledge is acquired outside of her class. She is friend to the current generation of the Kennedy's and numerous heirs the future crown of their native countries at the same time friends with students formerly lived in homeless shelters.
Private schools engage students in formal and social events such as governor ball and multitude of gallery events to teach student the proper social etiquette and decorum not only as attendees but opportunities for MC or chair an event. Public speaking and effective communication are paramount for the private colleges. If one can't speak in a crowd then there is little hope of leading them.
Character building before academic achievement is huge for these private schools. The goal is not only to produce the best leader for companies but also willing to share and better society from their earnings.

The purpose of going to the top college in my mind is not to make a lot of money and live in a pricey community. Top private colleges do a better job in nurturing the students character.
LOL. No it's really to get those few jobs where they will only look at the top schools because they have so many people looking for the job.
i.e. certain research positions etc. The others, like Wall Street firms are just about $$$$ and you get that anywhere.
