IUSD overrated

IUSD didn't even crack the top 50 for California.  And nationally, it's highest ranked high school (Uni) was #298.

www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/california/rankings?schooltypepublic=y&int=c0b4c1&schooltypemagnet=y&state=CA&schooltypecharter=y&page=3

Irvine real estate and being a safe city gives IUSD perception a boost. But if you compare IUSD high schools to the rest of California/Nationally, they are not top of the list like wttchm mentioned.

Around this area, Oxford Academy in Cypress and Whitney high in Cerritos are ranked the highest?

Also Troy is supposed to be very good, but similarly cut throat

IUSD overall is awesome all of the schools are within the top 250 in CA. You and I know the schools aren't at the top but that is ok as long the FCBs think the schools are the best with good PR and marketing continue to convince the fools to bring suitcases of cash.

I really don't see it that the quality of a school district is measured by the rankings of individual schools. Having a 12-yr old daughter I pay a lot of attention to school performances making this the number one priority in deciding where I live. If you look at the various rankings over a number of years it is very clear that in the Greater Los Angeles area San Marino is consistently the #1 ranked school district and Irvine #2. (e.g. k12.niche.com)

The Irvine result is reflected in almost every one of its schools being ranked by Greatschools.org as either 9 or 10. Because it is such a great school district you know that when a new school is being built it is going to be a good one. I would challenge you to say the same thing about a new school being built in Tustin or other nearby areas.

Oxford, Whitney, and Troy are all magnet schools so it's not really a fair comparison to Irvine, which has none.

@Swordfish - Greatschools.org is based on old API scores, which are now obsolete.

I think everyone agrees that Irvine schools are good, but are they really as great as insinuated by the TIC propaganda machine?  If so, you'd think they'd be ranked much higher than they really are.  As IHS learned firsthand, it's all PR.

Irvine schools are good and solid and your child must be extremely accomplished in order to be accepted to the second tier colleges. College admissions do have a double standard when reviewing applicants from Irvine. Judging by the college bound destinations IUSD did not live up to its perceived reputation. IUSD Nontheless is still the best consolation prize that money can buy. Now that you know the reality. Start convincing yourself that having a good high school education is much more important than a diploma from the best college.

Berkeley is second tier and UCLA is in the third tier just incase you ask.

@IHS - it really doesn't matter where you go to school.  You can be an HBS grad living in PP, or you can be from bumfuck China with no degree and speak no English yet still be J$'s neighbor.  They both ended up in the same place.

I live in the community center.  It has a fireplace.

Real wood burning? Or fake gas log.

Even the bums have a real street style fireplace.

Way to take me down a notch.
