If you go to the "Invention Conventions" in elementary schools you would realize that the craziness starts very early.  Either I am way too dumb or some of the kids who participate in these events are genius.

Smart is not a bad thing. Creating at a young age is also not a bad thing.  So I'm not sure how this gets crazy. Care to elaborate?

Because I am pretty sure that the models (some of them working models) were not by the students, I doubt the idea is that of the student too but I will give benefit of the doubt there

Yea but the blurring of parent and child work product is an age old issue universal to a lot of schools everywhere. Supercompetitive or not.  How does this turn into crazy?

Saratoga has nice estates with big lots. Did you get one?

Saratoga is great, but not in the top 3 in Nor Cal. Still, the top schools in the bay area out class Uni High by an mile

You should aim for Monta Vista, Mission San Jose, Linbrook and Lowell.

The reason I am putting my kids in a "good" school district is for them to get the exposure of "competition".

Wait, I thought you were in Johns Creek or Tustin Unified???

Anyway, schools and networking only help open the doors.  The rest is up to you in USA.

Our school district is the  Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High which feeds into Saratoga High.

I always mention about living in JC but only a crazy Panda would live there, JK!  :P

Only a few people on this board know where I really live in Southern California, my residence in SoCal is only temporary.

Oh no i agree... Monta Vista, Mission San Jose, Linbrook and Lowell are all great schools but we fell in love with a home in Saratoga that we had to buy.  We were actually in escrow for a home in Woodside but fell out.  Didn't find anything in Cupertino that we really liked, SJ and SF are out of our comfort zone so yeah.. I mentioned that the school district my son will be attending is "good"... I don't need top top top, I just need to know that he's getting a good education, will hopefully make great friends and have fun in sports.

Just in "general" I think you can tell if it's done by the parent or not.

I help my kids with their projects and art pieces.

But they have to think of what they want and I help them if they can't execute it properly.

There is a benefit to this though, once they see how I do something, they are able to replicate it themselves and are actually able to create some of their own things with minimal parental interference.

Real different from my childhood, my parents didn't do jack to help me with my stuff... they just bought the materials.

Congratulation Irvine High schools including the one west of Culver. One Harvard, one Yale and and one MIT are confirmed as of March 1st as the ideal top candidates. Rejects and those who survived the weeding pools will be announced no later than next weekend. Those who will not be receiving a letter by March you are just not important for the schools and that thin envelope will be in your mailbox in April.

Oh wait. So letters go out in March and April?  Here I was eagerly awaiting my 4 year old's harvard admit letter since February. #sorryhadtocomment

Confirmed by the lucky families then the following day to the schools made it official on the first school day beginning in March and that was 3/2 a Monday but don't know when acceptance was received since mail was not delivered on Sunday 3/1. So if the letter was received on the last delivery day before Sunday 3/1 that would be 3/0/15 if you don't want to believe the letters was dated in February for the top picked candidates. Hey you forgot to log out and use your other alias WTTCMCM.

Once again you are right. I just found the letter in my pile of unopened mail dated 3/0/15. Kid didn't get in. They almost took him but he couldn't color in between the lines correctly or something.  And shockingly, I actually only have 1 TI handle/account.  I know it's hard to believe that more than 1 person doesnt buy into your BS on this forum. You are THE all mighty IHS/bk whatever/grace whoever afterall.

I am still waiting for the day that the only emotion I feel for such a sad life is pure sorrow.

(Speaking about your kid of course Bones.  That age and still can't color in the lines!)

I just want to make enough money to buy the flying car all these overachievers will invent when the time comes.  Let them do the heavy lifting.

Not me, I just want to build the website that helps them hookup.  Oh wait, been done.

Okay, mobile app that helps them, oh wait been done.

Okay, meet my new business, hookup tutoring...

This is the essay that the famous black kid wrote that got him into all eight Ivy League schools. If this was the same essay but from an Asian kid he would've been rejected by all eight.

The funny thing is the topic is actually very stereotypically Asian - he writes about classical violin and how he loves music so much and it inspires him,  blah blah blah...  but at the end he drops the bombshell...  He's premed anyway.
