Irvine Housing Dreams ? Part 2

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
IHO by the way, nice impression? today?s poll is a variation on a theme to your topic...

You know those bad days when nothing is going right? You might be physically tired; the weather might be too hot or cold. Your wife might even by mad at you. The kid is a choir and work just basically sucks. I don?t know about you, but I automatically check out of reality and retreat to my day dreams.

Dreams are powerful; they can be a form of escape or a strong motivator. A shared vision between spouses can stimulate the difficult savings of that down payment. Couples can usually endure the short-term sacrifices when they having that end goal in mind.

Lately I?ve been finding myself thinking of that perfect borderline realistic-fantasy housing dream. I revisit that vision many, many times in my head, usually right before I fall asleep. Most visionary business leaders will tell you that the more you are able to imagine the details of you goal the more likely it is to come true. The more you are able to touch, smell, taste, see and hear your vision the more likely it is to be real.

It was fun to talk about the specifics of those dreams. But for the purpose of this thread; how set are you on your housing dreams? As PeterUK recently demonstrated, we have little control in life; anything can happen. Our dreams can be taken away at anytime. If your happiness is dependent on your dream; I can imagine how you might be constantly stressed out because there are so many factors that can go wrong and the dream can instantly die.

This was a hard thread for me to write; it?s hard to hold on to my dreams with an open hand. I?m sure most of you think about it constantly. I already know what color to paint my home office, and how we would celebrate our home warming. A part of me doesn?t want to be heart broken, and a part of me is afraid of hoping. But ultimately I know that I have to be open to changes.

There is a saying that goes something like: when you are a child, you fantasize about the day that you are grown and have plenty of money to buy all the candy you want. Then one day you are grown-up and can buy all the candy you want, but, of course, you don't want it anymore. The more time that goes on, the more I am finding out that the Irvine dream house is my candy.

I can agree with that..... especially when you can just lick the chocolate off the candy bar and then put it back in the wrapper and return it. A.k.a. renting.

The longer you have to wait for your candy the sweeter it will become when you eventually taste it. I waited more than 2 decades for my candy and it tastes awesome! I am dreaming of another candy which is a huge white tent in my backyard and shooting hoop mounted on my detached garage, and hiring 2 neighborhood kids to park 60 cars on my front lawn and long driveway.

Your Father of the Bride wedding dream is making me appreciate an Irvine backyard more: Backyard wedding on postage sized Irvine lot = about 10 guests = whole lot smaller catering bill for CK! ;)

Now if I can just figure out where we can park the 6 cars my guests will be arriving in.

You don't need a backyard for a father of the bride wedding in Irvine, just reserve your community clubhouse:

Find IHO and park 3 in his garage and the other 3 on his driveway.

Allow me to recommend an excellent table center piece.

Father of the Bride could not have become a successful film had the setting switched to a clubhouse. The title could have been Father of the Wedding Crashers.

i have noticed more and more parties being thrown at the clubhouse. pretty much every wkend there's some event. some major party downsizing going on in this economy. the days of showing off the size of your HELOC by your kid's 1-yr birthday party at the st regis are over.

personally i think the woodbury clubhouse + patio make a lovely intimate lil venue.

Sure I have housing dreams but at the end of the day I am more pragmatic. If my financial situation doesn't support buying a home then renting is okay with me. It fills my needs, keeps my family happy, and my wallet full.

I was walking the baby that day at the club house... very nice!

I used to feel that way about '56 Thunderbirds, and then Rolex(s). Now all I want is a nap.

What does that privilege work out to with 30 years of HOA and Mello Roo payments? $250,000?

You forgot to factor in the increase in the HOAs over 30 years. So it is more like $400,000.

Okay, I feel for those poor bridesmaids. It takes special talent to make skinny Asian chicks look wide and/or pregnant.

Regarding my housing dreams, I do what I can to move the dream to reality, but I realize there are some things out of my control.

Is it just me or does the pastor look a little bit like Bob Barker from The Price is Right? Lin and Jirsa... COME ON DOWN!

BTW: If you stop dreaming, you stop living.

I'm actually quite surprised that Asians would have a wedding reception in a club house, or anyplace that does not have a full on wok kitchen. Sharks must die for a proper Chinese wedding. Chinese wedding guests will curse you after giving you a fat red envelope if they do not get abalone, suckling pig, lobster, and most of all, shark fin. I agreed to have my wedding at Pacific Palms' new upstairs glass ballroom only because they had just hired a new chef from Hong Kong who knows how to do a Chinese wedding reception properly. You can't have a banquet like that at the club house.

the trend with kids these days is to make it all about them; and not the parents... you know, it's all about the kids... it looks like a small enough wedding where, they acutally invited quests that they know and care about. just a side note, our wedding was traditional, 300+ guests, most of whom I don't know... NBC Seafoods in Montery Park! very different... BTW, we made out pretty well with the Red Envelopes... I'm sure this couple did not, they probably got a registery at the Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel...

NBC is solid, I've been to several wedding receptions there. The best time was when the host made me an Honorary Gweillo and seated me at a table of whites who were horrified at all the shark fin, abalone, etc. so there was more for me: "Yes, you gweillos can have my fried rice, pass me your shark fin please!"

NBC used to have the BEST dim sum in town. Sadly, it changed in recent years.

Am I the only one thinking that couple was not Chinese? The girl looks Vietnamese to me...
