inexpensive place to file your taxes

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Can someone recommend a good and inexpensive place to file the taxes. We have used Tax 29 in woodland hills before and they did it for $29.But could not find something like that in Irvine or nearby areas. Looking for some good advice regarding the same.

Just don't go to H&R Block. They charge too much. Any mom and pop joint whom are licensed by the State of CA can help you for less.

I've been www.taxact.com for four years so far. Very satisfied. Electronic Filing both fed and state is something around $25. paper file may be less...

Liberty Tax Service's Federal e-filing is free: http://www.esmarttax.com/freeTaxFiling.asp

They also have some locations you can go and get your taxes done (find them at www.libertytax.com)

Jackson Hewitt is another choice: http://www.jacksonhewitt.com/Locator/?Irvine,%20ca

I personally use Turbo Tax and have been using it for the past 5+ years - it's good to be consistent even though it costs me around $60 each year including e-filing fees.

I honestly don't know how your previous tax office survive with that kind of pricing. Didn't they have overhead costs? Although, I can understand as consumers, we all want cheap price for good service. But in doing so, aren't you pricing these tax offices out of business? And if they're out of business. Then who do you turn to for professional advise?

As for using tax softwares, if they cost around $60.00 and up. Wouldn't you just pay another $20.00 for a professional to handle it for you?

For audit representation, I charge by the hour.

For tax preparation, I charge by the form. I think almost all tax preparers charge by the form.

reason - I am no competition for _&_ ____k. They spend gazillions on marketing and folks go to them because they think they can trust them. I would put them out of business if I could, but ...

I do not have overhead. I do not have an office. I have to buy software every year. That's about it.

Most of my clients are former audit clients and now they just send me their paperwork in the mail. If I need to meet them, ... their office, my home, their home, Starbucks; does it seem unprofessional?

We have been mailing our taxes to our tax guy for years. He emails or calls with questions. Then he mails them back to us. It has worked out nicely for years - we never even see him any more.
