Keep in mind...cabinet "upgrades" are usually just for the doors.  The doors will be made of wood and stained/painted according to the available options.  However, the boxes themselves will remain particle board with laminate.  It's a complete travesty that this is the case, but when you've lived with craftsman cabinets, you'll never go back.  I've always gone with the standard thermofoil and ripped it out the day after close of escrow.  Yes, it's expensive, but there's no way I can live with these cheap builder cabinets anymore.

Also, in this case "made in America" really means nothing.  The subs that the builders use for cabinets aren't very impressive IMO.  It's all made-to-order modular, but it's really no better than pre-made modular.

But if they don't upgrade the cabinets, it would look like cabinets from an attached townhouse.

Post construction. :)  I've got a REALLY solid cabinet guy if anyone is interested.

My point is...even if you "upgrade" the cabinets...you're just paying for the wood doors.  All of the boxes and structural elements (shelves, drawers, etc.) are all standard attached townhouse stuff.  To me, that's like throwing on a Ferrari fiberglass kit on top of a Fiero (no offense to any Pontiac fanboys here).

But to each his own...most buyers won't know the difference, but once you cross this line, there's no going back.

Hi Gasman, Can you cabinet guy also replicate the furniture package with cabinets up to ceiling?  I love the white cabinet color but do not like the thermafoil or mdf feel. HC only offers standard thermafoil or upgraded in mdf for white colors.  If so, please share his number with me.  Much thanks for suggestion.

So does he just replace the doors/drawers or the entire cabinet?

Standard kitchen/bath cabinets are wood. Standard laundry room cabinets are thermafoil.

You can get craftsman or bologna style cabinets painted white for $8100.  It's another $2000 to upgrade laundry room cabinets from thermafoil to wood.

Actually for the white cabinets, if you look at the label on the back it states thermafoil for the standard and mdf for the upgrades level 3 and 4.  This only applies to the white color cabinet.  The other 5 colors are wood.

Entire thing.  It's a full teardown.  Boxes, drawers, doors, pullouts, hardware, plumbing, fixtures, everything.

You upgrade to next level and getting mdf cabinets while standard stained cabinet will be wood?  That doesn't sound good.

Really! That's bad news. I'll need to double check with my designer tomorrow...

Hmm.. That doesn't sound good at all.
How the hell could they set MDF cabinet as "UPGRADE" over Wood cabinet, just because wood cabinet doesn't have white color option?
They rip more profit off at people's preferences even thou the materials(MDF) are cheaper?
That's a business ethic issue... I would be so disappointed at TB if this was true.

White paint on MDF or wood really looks exactly the same, but once you put your hands on it and the feel will be complete different. Being a luxury home builder, if this is the case then this is really bad. An investment of this large should get the best.

Hi Everyone!

I'm new here and have read through the entire thread over the past few weeks.  My wife and I are planning on purchasing a home in Hidden Canyon so it's nice to have this forum available!

I do have a couple questions that even the TB reps don't have answers for.

1.  Do any of the homes come with attics for extra storage space?  One TB rep said she "thinks" she saw one of the workers climbing into a crawl space, but she doesn't know for sure.

2.  We've been told there is no landscaping or hardscaping provided by TB, they just do the house only.  Does that mean you just get a dirt lot in the front and back yards, and you're on your own?  Is there at least a driveway and walkway up to the door in front?

3.  Who will provide cable/internet service to Hidden Canyon?  I'm assuming Cox?

Thanks!  :)

It's almost standard for new homes to just give you a dirt lot. By law the builder is required to have a driveway, front walkway/stairs to front door, and a stepping pad outside each door from home leading to the outside.

@Evo:

Welcome to TI and the infamous Hidden Canyon thread.

For cable, most likely it will be Cox but you may also be able to get AT&T U-Verse.

Most homes have attics, but new home attics aren't usually built for storage so you may have to do some after move-in work (I don't think "Finished Attic" is a Design Center option).

Hah.  That explains why Taylor Morrison homes have a concrete step in to the California Room enevthough they don't provide a concrete slab.  thanks.

I would love to get some feedback/thoughts on this two toned flooring.  Do you like? Would you install in your home?

My husband really likes, but I am not sure I'm sold on it.

This is in the Capri - Redondo model.

I went to the Arizona tile store yesterday in Anaheim, and there are several variations to this tile. It is from the Over Series. If you like this look, but do not want something quite as loud, you might consider the Over White or Over Cream.

You must also saw the price tag for these tiles, just wait till you see the quote for these tiles from the design center. >:(

Looks like you may consider doing flooring after the closing from outside contractors.  And if you are looking for porcelain or natural stone tile, I'd highly recommend these following places.

Walker Zanger.
Ann Sacks
Porcelanosa

These three vendor are very high end, with incredible selections and amazing showrooms.  I think their selection would fit homes in HC very nicely.

The price tag for the Arizona tiles were not too high surprisingly. I think it was around 5 to 6 dollars per sq ft.
