What do you guys think about the optional glass door panel the the great room... You think it is worth it to get it .. What the fang shui??

Imo, the glass door makes the great room. Definitely get the manual door, not the one with the motor. In the Cassis model, they placed a dining table between the front and back doors, I think that's supposed to block the feng shui?

I can see the dining table in Cassis model blocking the the glass panel doors in the great rooms, what about the other models and the Capri models? the Redondo  looks great with open glass door? what about Portofino? and Capri? you guys think the glass panel door is worth getting and how you block the "feng shui"

Who knows, a fire breathing dragon might just do the trick.
But regarding the ocdad's question about the pocket door option... I would get it, it'll really open up the great room.  And if you feel like your wallet feels slimmer after getting that door, you can try scaring the crap out of the chi with a dragon.

The sliding pocket door option makes the outdoor living space feel like it is actually part of the great room. It's a beautiful feature, and I think you will see a return on your investment if you select this option.

I've attached a photo of the sliding pocket door in The Redondo (Capri collection).

Yup.  :)

He decided to sit down as I started taking pictures.

another concern i have for the sliding pocket door in the great room is the insects and fly during summer time and night time when you leave it open...  it looks great but no sure about how practical it is??

I spoke to the sales lady standing in the Redondo model with the big pocket doors. I asked her if she could close the doors so I can see how it feels, she was hesitant. After some awkward silence, she decided to do it and what a huge difference it makes once the doors are close. The living space is actually pretty small. Sort of deceiving. I think anyone who get this needs to get the pocket doors.

Question for the folks that have bought in HC with families, are there any concerns on distance (Middle school & Highschool)? From the map it looks like you would need to take the 405 freeway? Will they be building schools closer?

The reason you even have this question is because the Irvine Spectrum, which HC is essentially a part of given its location at the convergence of Bake Parkway and Lake Forest Drive, was not designed to be a residential area so it does not have parks and schools.  The Irvine Spectrum and IBC were designed as commercial centers and only after 2009 was there ever any plans to put residential properties in those areas.  The Irvine Spectrum was designed as an "IBC south."  Developers are now starting to build residential apartments in the IBC and the people moving into those developments are facing the same issues as HC buyers:  no residential amenities in a commercial center.

This is a very different scenario than the areas that radiate off of Culver:  Bonita Canyon, Turtle Ridge, Turtle Rock, Woodbridge, Northwood, Northpark, Orchard Hills, etc. which were designed form the outset as residential areas so they are full of parks, schools, and other residential amenities.  Just as IBC residents will have to share Westpark amenities, so HC residents will have to share Quail Hill amenities.

Yes, they are building a new high school near the Great Park and it's scheduled to open Fall 2016.  As of right now, the attendance boundary for HC high schools students is University High.  However, the IUSD Boundary Advisory Committee is drafting a new proposal to change attendance boundaries once the new high school opens.

Based on the attached map, it appears HC's boundary attendance will change to the new high school if the proposal is excepted.

When we were considering the groves at OH, we kind of accepted the fact that the kids had to be driven to school (elementary & high school). So the problem exists either way if you're shopping between OH and HC. Hopefully they'll add a school bus route.

I thought the Laguna Altura folks successfully petitioned to keep their kids at Uni?

And what about the TB lurker who said he is moving from Newport to HC specifically for the schools?  I guess he is S.O.L.  According to your map, it looks like his kids are headed to T.J. High instead of Uni.  (T.J. = Toxic Jail)

Does the new proposal include Laguna Altura residents?  They fought hard to keep their boundary in Uni and surprisingly won.  I can't imagine they will redraw the boundaries again after the HS opens

Yeah, I'd be surprised if those new boundaries actually passed.  LA residents lobbied VERY VERY VERY hard, and spent tons of money on lawyers to keep their Uni boundaries.  I'm willing to bet they will do it again, and will pose a stronger front with the HC money backing them.  Influence is everything, and money buys influence.

For what it's worth, weren't LA residents fighting a re-zoning into Saddleback school district?  I have to imagine that would have been a MUCH bigger problem, compared to moving from one IUSD property to another IUSD property...?

Yes I'm the TB lurker who sold my house in NB to move to HC  ;) Home sales and traffic was really poor this weekend so now I'm back on TI!

Based on the latest board approval in August, looks like HC and Laguna Altura stays in Uni High.  I think the one posted above was the version from March 2014, the final boundaries looks like they were approved last August.
