This may take a few entries. I am going to share some of the things I make during Halloween. If anybody has something they like to make, please add the pictures or ideas to the thread.

I'll start with:

Eyeball Cupcakes

Tombstone Cupcakes

I made these a few years ago. Easy. Bake chocolate cupcakes. Frost with chocolate frosting. Make "dirt" out of crushed Oreos. Use Milano cookies for the tombstones. Cut in half. Stick in the "mud". Write on tombstone with chocolate icing pen.

I made this last year. Please ignore the ugly granite counters.  :) They have been replaced.

Mummy Dogs w/ Spiderweb Ketchup, Green Jello, and Red Punch

I can't locate the picture to go with it, but, you can make Halloween or Autumn cut-outs using this Pampered Chef mini cookie cutter set. I use the pumpkin and fall leaf shapes:

You cut out shapes in slices of American cheese. Put them on top of Ritz crackers. I did a lot of those for a preschool class once and they were ALL GONE.

I overheard one of the moms saying, "Did you see those cheese and crackers? Somebody has too much time on their hands. ::)"

Actually, it hardly takes any time at all. If you stack the cheese slices, you can cut out several at once.  :)

Man all that stuff looks great.  i can eat those mummy dogs for days - i love those hebrew national franks in a blanket

Socal - how did you learn to cook/make all this stuff? Did you learn from your someone or did you just pick all this stuff up on your own?

I will just be very jealous and say 'somebody has too much time' ;)
Any Tootsie roll recipes? The addict needs a reason to buy...
BTW post the jack-o-lantern quesidilla pictures too.

Thank you.  :) I learned all on my own. My mom wasn't creative for holidays whatsoever other than the predictable Christmas cookie. She did cook every night but it was almost always out of a box. There wasn't much to teach. When I started my married life 12 years ago, I only knew how to make one thing.  :-[ Mr. SoCal did not marry me for my cooking, that's for sure!  :D

I decided it was my responsibility. I was going to have to throw myself into it and teach myself everything to become the best I could. There were many, many trials and errors. I either improved on the bad recipes or threw them away. I filed away the good ones. I made it my job. We had a rating system we still use now where 1 is bad, 5 is great. I would write down the comments and make it better next time and the time after. Every week I worked diligently to create meal plans including half favorites plus half new recipes (same as I still do) and every holiday I did the same.

When we had kids, I started to look for kid-friendly recipes especially for holidays like those above.  Over the many years, my binder of good ones grew and grew. I'm still always on the lookout for good recipes but at least now, I don't have to worry about what I'm doing anymore.  :) I have a good one for every occasion. It's been a LOT of work!

As luck would have it, this is one of the few things I've made that has come out perfectly each time.  :D

Jumbo Tootsie Roll

Time Required: Lifetime
Serves: 2
Preheat Oven: Hot

Ingredients:

2 Cups understanding, sifted 3 times
1 Cup of sense of humor
1 tsp. of teasing
2 tsps of spunk
1 Cup of patience
1/2 C. of sharing
2 tempers, separated

Sift understanding, once through his love, and once through the love of Christ. Add teasing and spunk. Sift once more. Separate tempers. Beat his until tender - hers until light & frothy. To his, add patience and sharing - add to understanding to which has been added a sense of humor. Fold in hers with spice of your own choice, this may be varied from time to time for variety is the spice of life. Handle all ingredients tenderly!

Bake for 9 months.

Find candy wrapper at local party supply store. Wrap gently.

See pic for example. My Jumbo Tootsie Roll - SoCal, Jr. #2 which I made in 2006. :D

* I have to give credit where credit is due. I didn't write that recipe. It was given to me by a friend on a recipe card. I have kept it in my first cookbook for many years!    :D It is the first recipe I see when I open my book. It is actually titled "Marriage Cake". Since Marriage Cake leads to Tootsie Rolls, I thought it would be suitable.

CZ and I have been making a pumpkin spice coffee recipe every fall for the last couple years. I think you gave me the recipe, right, CZ? Do you want to post it here? It's very good.

Speaking of coffee - on Facebook you told me making coffee was too much trouble for one person. What kind of device are you using?... coffee pot? I bought a Keurig last year. Consider getting one. Making a single serving is so easy!

I'll keep looking for the Jack O'Lantern quesadilla picture. My Shutterfly account deleted some of my pics when I went over the limit so I may have lost it.

I thought you had shared it with me :D
This is the site where we got our recipe from:http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/10/crockpot-pumpkin-spice-latte-recipe.html

Here is the recipe:
The Ingredients.
adapted from Taste of Home's Halloween 2008 edition

--2 cups milk (I used 1%)
--2 T canned pumpkin
--2 T white sugar
--2 T vanilla (not a typo. it asks for tablespoons)
--1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
OR: 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp cloves, 1/8 tsp nutmeg, and a teeny tiny pinch of ground ginger
--1/2 cup brewed espresso or 3/4 cup strong brewed coffee

--garnish with whipped cream (optional)

The Directions.

This will make enough for 2 people to have a big mug with a bit leftover. If you are having friends over, adjust the recipe accordingly. I used a 4-quart crockpot, but as small as a 1.5 quart will work with these amounts.

Add the coffee/espresso and milk to the crockpot. Whisk in the pumpkin, spices, sugar, and vanilla.

Cover and cook on high for 2 hours if everything is cold. Whisk again.

Ladle into mugs, and garnish with whipped cream and additional cinnamon. I added a cinnamon stick to be fancy.
(if I rinse it off, can I re-use it? It seems wasteful to toss.)

I buy pumpkin spice from Trader Joes, though making it on your own will bring out the best aroma. I substitute brown sugar for white sugar, and turbinado sugar also works well. No surprise- I skip whipped cream :-)

This recipe makes the whole house smell good- if you have children, bake a pumpkin bread on side to save yourself some grief!

SoCal, I think you made the hot buttered rum also..
I might get the slow cookers out today- saw a few clouds this morning, reason enough!

To make my coffee I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Chambord-French-Coffee-Chrome/dp/B005FFBV5I/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1349455378&sr=8-4&keywords=bodum+coffee+press

It's a small coffee press, I think mine only makes two cups. I do buy Folgers from Costco though!
A whole machine.. let me think.

Yeah, I did make Hot Buttered Rum from that website last year. Honestly, I didn't care for it.

I also use the Keurig as an electric kettle. My boy can make his own oatmeal with it. When recipes call for hot water, I dispense it from the Keurig. Also, he loves hot apple cider. I showed him how to put the cider K-cup in and make it.

I also use instant. I love Nescafe's instant coffee. It still remains the best coffee I've ever had. Costco sells it at a great value! Much cheaper than through the grocery store! I still buy it and make it with hot water from the Keurig.

I've stocked up on fall candles to make the house smell nice. This week it's "Pear Spice Clove". Bath & Body Works has some nice scents out right now. Sugared Doughnut, French Bread, etc.!!
