i know theres a krav maga studio at the base of turtle ridge these days.

edm, one thing about irvine you'll quickly find out is the neighborhood will be what you make of it. in general every neighborhood is safe, and child-friendly with good schools. to what degree depends a great deal on yourself. people in irvine are friendly, but reserved. if you choose to reach out to your neighbors, i'm sure people will respond in kind. if you keep to yourself, neighbors quickly know to leave you alone. i know some residents from all the way on the other side of my neighborhood. we see each other walking our dogs all the time and let our "kids" have play time together. conversely some of my neighbors less 50 ft away from me, we don't even know each other's names.

Not much feedback about which gated communities are family-friendly. Can anyone comment on that? We'd love to live in a community with lots of kids around.

This mix of gated secure communites and family friendly atmosphere with "lots of kids around" doesn't exist in current OC housing developments.

Frankly, the family friendly community (aka kids playing) is hard to find in ANY community.

None of those guys looked familiar. Oh well.

Love the new avatar Acpme!

When I first moved out here, I thought the gates were nice. It felt safe, but then I realized all of Irvine has a gate already: High property taxes and lots of police with not much to do ;)

So the metal gates have just become more of an annoyance than anything else esp. when they break and I see them break all the time.

couldn't agree more, same with no kids playing on the street. If you decided to move to irvine, you wouldn't dare let your kids play on the dangerous street especially if they haven't done their 4 hours of hw, 3 hours of community services and allow for 2 hours of WoW.

My favorite is when the idiot resident crashes into the gate leaving it permanently open, well, as long as it doesn't happen in my HOA.

But c'mon, without the gates we wuldn't have the sign with that guy getting crushed! Those are better than tv commercials.
