Great Dim Sum

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I agree with you. He should have shown some courtesy. There was a time when he was under a lot of stress from his earlier interracial relationship with Eartha and a girl born out of wedlock. He was miserable when that relationship did not work out. He does not know how to isolate his personal issues from his public life. In a sense he is not an actor in his real life. To certain extent he is a straight shooter and has very little to hide. He wears his emotion on his face. It is a double edge sword that has both good and bad.

I will let him know!

I think that they do owe us a smile and a simple "Hello, nice to meet you" or something like that (as long as the fan approaches them respectfully and at an appropriate time).

My circle of friends are Asian producers and directors. I met him in the mid 80's through friends. At that time he was into arts and dance.

You saw him right around the time of Joy Luck Club.

Haha, thanks. I worked up the courage all night to go up to him and say hello and he couldn't have cared less. He wasn't mean or rude, just distant.

And yes, it was shortly after The Joy Luck Club, as I recall. It was around the time he was in "Vanishing Son" (horrible show but I watched it just for him). He was just so, so beautifully gorgeous. You can tell him that, too. :)

Yes, he was named the the top 50 most beautiful people in People Magazine.
His first break was China Cry a Christian movie about evangelism in Communism. The older women in that movie also played the mothers in Joy Luck Club. Wayne then asked him to play the role of a Shanghai playboy since the mothers really like him.

Good for you to work up the courage. He should have smiled and that could have changed the course of his destiny. I could have been in your wedding and Russ living in Irvine.

LOL! If only. We could have had a lovely wedding in an Irvine pocket park.

Sounds like a fairytale wedding in an idyllic setting!
Did you attend Mills or St Mary back in 94?

I knew you would love it. Neither; UC Berkeley.

So who else do you know?  Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao?  I still enjoy my old copies of Drunken Master, Project A, Gui da Gui..  How bout Andy Lau?  Love to hear any stories you got on my old movie stars I watched when I was little...

@trace, I don't know if you know this guy. A mutual friend made an introduction at Dim Sum and his name is John Lone. We chatted for a while and I was totally shocked when I learned he had lived just a few houses away from where I currently lived.

John Lone, I don't think so...should I?

Google him for a photo. He is extremely private and has the mystery personality that you find attractive in Russ. He has a similar handsome features like Russ. He was in numerous movies during the 80s and just like Russ he mostly is behind the cameras.

I just looked him up. I don't think I've seen any of his movies. You certainly have a knack for meeting mysterious Asian/Asian-American movie stars.

Don't tell Russell, but I originally only liked him for his looks, not his mysterious personality or even his acting skills. Terribly shallow, I know.
