There are only a few gated communites in Irvine, like Northwood II.  Here's the link for the floorplans:

floorplans.irvinerealtorsite.com

EDIT: The site no longer offers the floorplans due to threatened litigation.

I'm starting a petition to get Woodbury gated.  It was always designed for that future possibility, there's only one long entrance on each of the four sides.

It'll keep out the riff-raff....  :P

Not a bad idea :D

What is the point unless you are going to have some man the gates?  It is so easy to wait for another car to open the gate and follow them in.    ;)

Northpark has 3 man gates but one can walk in freely from the bike trail adjacent to the drainage channel ( It is a 1/3 mile walk from portola) The pedestrain gates are open from 6am -10pm

Northwood pointe has 2 manned gates but I can get in easily from the Hicks trail by foot (300 yards from Culver)

Crystal Cove has 2 manned gates but the pedestrian gates are not locked most of the time. I park in the shopping center below and walk in.

Shady Canyon has 2 manned gates but required to have pedestrian access open to public due to Bommer Canyon nature trail. One can walk into Shady anytime and see Acpme.

Turtle Ridge has manned gates but pedestrian gates are open.

There are no manned gates in Tustin Ranch.

There are manned gates in Pelican Crest, Pelican Pointe, and Ocean Ridge. they are fairly secured.

There are also a couple in Turtle Rock but I don't know what they're called.  One is off of ridgeline that overlooks Strawberry Farms and the other is off of Turtle Rock Drive towards the top of the hill.

I thought the streets of Woodbury are public which is why the HOA is reasonable.  If so I don't think a gate would be possible

Most of Northwood Pointe is gated, including the guard-gated southern portion.
Many of Oak Creek are gated.

Northwood is gated but belongs to Tustin Unified School District.

My main concern is not security so much as traffic and hecticness from all the traffic around. So I guess these guarded communities need to be less crowded as well to achieve that.

You mean Northpark, right?  Because Northwood Pointe and Northwood II are in the Irvine school district.

also, whatever development is off of meadowood, canyonwood and trailwood...  2 of my bosses live in there...  really nice houses with a lot of sq footgage... im just not sure i'd pay in the uppper millions for irvine...  i think one of the developments is called mahogany.

Even if someone mans the gates, I personally think it's more for show and bragging rights ("I live in a gated community"... *points nose up*).  My folks live in a double gated community in San Diego and it's far more of a nuisance than any security it provides.

Though it will keep out the Google map vans if you're concerned about privacy...

Agreed, I never understood HOA fees for a non-manned gate.  Just follow someone in.

Funny story... there was a line at the gates at Northpark because I guess someone was trying to get in to work on someone's home but that someone wasn't home or they weren't on the "list". Took a long time and finally the truck had to u-turn out. We get up to the gate, we tell the guard "We're here for the Open House" and she just waves us through.

Personally I don't like gates.. false security... big PITA for pizza/guests/contractors... and yes it does not keep out the riff raff.. only the people you want in...

Only thing it's good for is to keep out the preachers....
