@socal: I have 10 just downstairs in my small house... 11 more upstairs. Are you counting all the little windows in the bathrooms?

I'm not counting every window in the house because there are some small windows that would not use a shutter (too small). The downstairs powder room does not have a window. The upstairs bathrooms have those little sliding windows like you see above a shower stall and one above a vanity mirror up near the ceiling - not the kind a person would shutter. There is a regular sized kitchen window with no shutter. It is the only uncovered window.

Each bedroom has one window. 4 bedrooms = 4 windows
Living room = 2 windows. One is high but still counts as one?
Entry = 1
Dining room = 1 window + sliding glass door.
Kitchen = 1, uncovered
Baths = 2 tiny windows, don't count

Hmm.

How many square feet? I don't remember from the last time I e-stalked your home's history on Zillow. Could use a refresher.

Sounds about right. 15 windows in my 3 bed/2.5 bath (+2 in stairwell) SoCal, you sure there are only 8?

I'm starting to feel insecure about my window countage.

If a window is approx 6 feet wide and 9 or 10 feet tall (?? I'd have to get out a tape measure) does it still count as "one" window?

IHO and CZ - you both have the Redfin link to the old MLS listing of my house with photos of it.

I wanted to try that Tim guy that I've read so much about while lurking, but he didn't return calls.

I was thinking of going with Golden West Shutters , local manufacturer.  Anybody tried them and have feedback?

@SoCal:

Each of my bedrooms is on a corner so that's a minimum of 2 windows each... 4 bedrooms is already 8 windows. The master has an additional window, the master bath is on a corner so that's two more windows... etc etc.

Sounds like qwerty is even putting shutters on the small bathroom windows... so 38 isn't outrageous... esp now that you know it's 3000sft.

My house is less than 2000sft, I think yours is the same or bigger... so I demand a recount. :)

You're the home expert so please set forth the definition of "one window". Dimensions, please. A window is a window no matter the size or shape?

I did miss one shuttered window on a corner bedroom I never enter so I forgot it was there (the window, not the bedroom). Okay, that's the 9th shuttered window. I've recounted a few times and I can't get past 9 plus 2 itty bitty bathroom windows. 11 if you want to get technical. Sliding door not included. One whole side of the house has zero windows.

Actually, it still seems like a lot of windows. Maybe the company over counted. His house is nearly double the size of mine yet has 3.5x as many windows!

My uncle referred me to one of his friends who's the CEO of onyx shutters.  They have a showroom out in Pomona and told me his real wood shutters range from 14-18 per sq ft installed.  I'm going to try to meet him soon, so I'll give everyone an update.

2200 sq ft house here, with a ton of windows...  hope the price won't be too high.

Does this include hidden tilt bar?  Top/bottom split opening?  How many sq ft total?  Shutters from Tim Lou came out to about 15.00/sq ft with hidden tilt (they call it ClearVue) and top/bottom split.

does not include the hidden tilt bar, the estimate does not say the number of square feet. not sure about the top/bottom split opening either.  they just came out to measure the windows the other day and i told my wife to get an estimate as if all the windows would have shutters. im guessing it is their standard design since we havent picked out the actual ones we would want.

See, you compromised. Huge yard, but not enough glass to enjoy the views.
My ittibitty has windows on every wall, and I can peek to see what my neighbors are doing. Without that privilege, I would be bored  ::)

I didn't know blinds were so expensive. I have wood blinds in my house.. thankful for the previous owner (not kidding! I would have taken forever to upgrade.. took us two years to get rid of builder's carpet) for installing all those pretty things. I would have gone for split shutter for a couple of windows though..

Fortunately, all of the downstairs windows face both the rear and front yards. The garden views from the kitchen and living room is one reason I bought the house. :)

I just mentally counted the last two houses I've lived in. Both had similar window count as my current one, give or take one for their square footage.

Tch.. tch.. you can't tell what your neighbor is having for dinner without asking them? Must be a pain  :P
I can't either- I am just joking.

I am a sucker for natural day light. I need windows, at least on two different sides.
When I get rich, and buy another house, I want a house with bay window.

Hello I recently also used Tim Lou but he has now disconnected his phone numbers and I cannot reach him I have a open order with him and so does my mother please let me know any info you may have.

From what I heard is Tim Lou is no longer with Express Blinds. Express Blinds is a very good shutter company. very cheap price and good service. Ask for Young, 1-800-924-1097...Young did my house and my relative houses
