BP doesn't have a big appeal to me. The melorooz going up 2% every year is a big deterrent.

I'm having trouble rating Eastwood. Not sure if it being further from GP is a good or bad thing. Traffic might be better. Woodbury does have better retail area close by and a sligthly better feel when walking around than SG for isntance (and PS).

Don't know which planet you came from , but we are doing fine in here at PS :) , with woodbury town center 1.2 miles (4 min drive) or 15 min walk - its a nice, clean, brand new affordable community where you may get more bang for your buck as my condo is linked with NorthWood High, PS Elementary and forgot the name of the 3rd school ...and blue ribbon is a mystery

Hate to burst your bubble but PS will not be mapped to Northwood starting next year.

And where's the credible source for that info? Please share, i thought once a school is designated to a house, it stays like that forever , who dictates or changes these things? :(

Is this it"?http://www.ocregister.com/articles/high-632196-school-students.htmlIf yes, which one is HS5?

Better sell your PS home now. :)

Actually, on a serious note I find it sneaky that new and existing home sellers keep promoting Northwood in their brochures and write-up. Sneaky indeed.

Well, i will quietly sneak in my asian tenants w/o revealing this painful truth and more or the less Portola High School will eventually become popular and gain reputation as it still falls under IUSD, so 10/10 isnt going anywhere similar to Portola Elementary

No one knows. Portola could be the next northwood or it could not.  Just think about the buyer pool in these new neighborhoods zoned to Portola high school - similar makeup as those buying in other new neighborhoods so student quality will probably be similar. Usually new schools draw the best teachers, have the latest technology, etc. I think at the end of the day, Portola high will be the same as the northwoods of the world. Overated! :)

They should put that in the brochures then, "Portola High, the next Northwood. You'll see."

By the way, it's a misconception that new school, new teacher, latest technology is what makes a school. In my opinion 90% is due to the students and their families, not the school. If you pour a billion more into Santa Ana schools, I'm sure the at the end of the day it will STILL will still be a Santa Ana school.

Thanks, i need this over-rated hype, all the media hulla-boo, hype, media coverage, made-up stories, #1 awards and what not, to sleep every night as this condo has been the biggest spending of my life and i dont want to regret it

Dang. You hopped on the EW bandwagon fast.

didn't I list student quality as the first item?

I think you already do.

Track record in Irvine usually shows the newest schools become really good because all the new owners are invested in their homes/family/children.

Portola High will become the next Top X School in US News and World Reports.

Given the time Five Points will be putting into developing the full Great Park, it is in their absolute best interest to do what it can to ensure Portola Hills High School is a smashing success. I don't know how anyone could doubt that it wouldn't be a top rated high school. Aren't they pulling Uni's principal over or something?

Either way, I am of the opinion all of the schools in the new areas are pretty much the same (not a bad thing, but all are probably a bit overrated because it is more to do with the families, etc).

It's all a farce.  Who's to say Northwood is any better than the other IUSD schools?  All IUSD high schools (plus Beckman) are very good.  That's not because of a newer facility or better faculty (how does one quantify that?), it's because of the API scores of the student population.  The API scores are a function of.....the families.

If you want your child to have a good education, you don't need to spend the extra $$ to buy a house specifically tied to Northwood.  Just make sure they're in a good district like IUSD and focus on your kid's education, instead of relying on the school to do all the work.
