Drapes

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Ok pulled the trigger on those sheer drapes (ships out of South Carolina, takes about a week to get here), also bought the Little Giant ladder at Costco for $140.  Did a test run to see if the ladder would work out, turned out pretty good.  Able to stay in A-Frame and still reach ceiling.  I will be thinking twice if I have to go extension (straight 180 degree) on the ladder.  So if this works out, $70 for drapes, use old curtain rods, and ladder.... Bout $200 + a couple hours to measure/install... Should be worth it as long as there are no hospital bills :)

Got my drapes...length was perfect.. But now my curtain rods that I had leftover from my old place is too short... Picked up the black Ikea 150" rods per Penguin's suggestion... Hard to beat at $7....At this length also need minimum 4 brackets...  Didn't care for the Ikea finials but I believe those can be swapped out to others....also found my old Zircon stud and laser levels... Those help quite a bit...especially the laser level...

Had to nix the IKEA rods.  The rod itself is ok but the brackets are flimsy.  A thin piece of metal bent 90 degrees, rather not chance it.  Plus it looked too industrial for our tastes...  Picked up a new rod set at Lowes for $50 and was of much better construction.  The brackets are thickest at the point where the most support is needed and the rod is a three piece versus IKEA's two.  This means there is an inner rod supporting the extension out to 144" whereas the IKEA system is just one rod coming out of another which also gives it a tapered look.  132" curtains were a perfect fit but stupid me didn't order enough panels (duh, grommet style means the curtains will not be stretched out).  Needed at least 2 more panels for fullness...and now curtainworks is sold out...crap

Bump for sale:

www.curtainworks.com is having a sale, 20% off with free shipping (code: FJ2014).  Also check for cashback here:
http://www.cashbackholic.com/cashback-rebates-curtainworks.com.html

So I got 10% back plus 1.5% back with CC.

I ordered from them before, the sheer white grommet you find a few posts above.  Didn't buy enough first time, now I got 6 total to complete the look.  It's frustrating to find longer length curtains in stores, especially my 132" length.  Buying online is the cheapest way besides going uber expensive custom.  For the Cypress Village 10' ceiling people, they have 120" in stock!

Drapes get dusty
That depends on the material and where they are installed.

Have used drapes for years, only had to dry clean one set that was cotton/linen and it was on the patio doors to the outside, so it was more dirty than dusty.

Drapes in the bedrooms are polyester(?) based and have not noticed dust in several years (not sure if our cleaner does something).
