distorted RE market

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
[quote author="EvaLSeraphim" date=1255731886][quote author="no_vaseline" date=1255658481]As I posted on the front blog, I'm likely only a SoCal resident for the next 3-4 years.

. . .

A year ago, I erronously thought I was going to get to stay here. I was wrong.</blockquote>

Although, I know what you're saying. We're looking around at other far away places too. While there is some money to be made in the next several years, I think the typical career trajectory is out. That means little opportunity in our prime years - and, I think, an increasing tax burden - making it that much harder to get ahead here. If you can't make a lot of money, you might as well go have fun. We are very seriously pursuing working for a friend of Prof's.</blockquote>

Count me in that same group, as a short-timer here and going to have fun elsewhere. I recently spend a month back in the midwest, returning to Irvine just two weeks ago. While there, I started the proces of setting up an LLC in Illinois, so I can start building up business in that region, and gradually wind down the work here. I have access to a family home where I can live for free while I make the transition. Free is better even than renting!

Going back to career #17.

I got to knock off this whole personal trainer nonsense and get back to eatin' chicken fried steaks and biscuts and gravy.

I dont think you were the only one "convinced" to sell

and not "everyone" called you crazy for thinking such things.

Some people have thanked IHB for their inaction (not buying).

Do you blame IHB for your actions (selling)?

[quote author="irvine_home_owner" date=1255591131]But why is Irvine so stubborn?

When I first talked about this, I said that Irvine would be sticky but everyone called me crazy and I eventually was convinced to sell before I was upside down. A year later... a house similar to mine sells for more (significantly more).

I don't regret my actions... but everyone said Irvine is like everywhere else where clearly it is not. Is it the FCBs?</blockquote>

As I said... I don't regret my actions.

I miss living in a bigger house because we are now stuck in the house we left in the first place for the one we sold, but I couldn't put up with the busy street noise and in retrospect, I think the house was overpriced for what we got. We lost quite a bit of money on it but at the same time, if not for Fed interaction and slow REO processes, if the Irvine RE market had taken a dump as fast as the stock market, we would have lost more.

I think eventually prices will come down, I think the frustration is we could have lived there another 9 months and then sold instead of the double move we had to do, but we didn't want to risk it. If we hadn't lost the amount of money we did on the sale, we probably would buy right now and just suck up the loss and stay put for 10-15 years.

You been watching Fight Club too?

Everybody calm down, wait for this slow season to hit, then wait for the next one and the other. After that, early 2012 you will have what you want.

By 2012 I'll be gone, and I already have everything I want - a lovely wife and three little white dogs.

By "thanks" I mean that I truly don't want you to be gone, I will miss your physical presence, but I love to hear that someone is actually happy with what they have. That is far too rare in this world.

You guys crack me up. He actually lives close to my house and I have seen him in REAL LIFE, not this crazy thing we call the IHB. I am merely not happy about not actually seeing him, I expressed it in that manner because I know we will all still have interaction with him even if he leaves the OC.

No_vas: the reports of your demise have been extremely premature.

Sorry for the thread derail, but it seems that I have been misunderstood four times in the past few weeks. I think I'd better regroup and figure out why everything I say is not very clear. At least I have a consolation prize in that I realize that it is probably my problem and not all of you.

My planned exit date is 12/12/12. There is a lot of ground to cover between now and then, but it's my plan to move back home, (which is roughly an hour north of Bakersfield). At first I thought I was sleep deprevation from the new puppy and tried to brush it off, but I realized I'm homesick and I miss my family. Even though just about everything is better in SoCal (the food, grocery stores, health care, variety of people, the weather, my alergies) it just doesn't matter that much if you miss your momma.

I'm going home to be as involved or uninvolved as my parents need me to be. My dad doesn't want to retire, and my mother doesn't want us to be burdened, but...family businesses are always complicated. My cousin and I were chatting on Saturday, and it went something like this:

"So, I'm working on this deal, and if I can pull it off, I can leave Socal and move back..."

<em>"Ah - so your coming back to run the farm!"</em>

"No, I'm coming back so I can be closer to my parents, and I'll be as involved or uninvolved as they want me to be."

<em>"Ah - so your coming back to manage the farm!"</em>

"No......"

Apparently everyone has it figured out except for me and my parents.

I, for one, have completely given up. I have come to the conclusion that I will rent my SFR in perpetuity becuase it's the only thing that seems sane for right now.</blockquote>

I have been having the same thoughts about Irvine the past few weeks. So much for my dream of living in Turtle Rock. Ladera Ranch here I come..... actually I have no idea where I will end up, but will be in my rental till I can figure it out.
