Crap... Murphy's Law strikes again... Need HVAC rec

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
In 2009 I replaced my HVAC in a 1300 SQFT house.  Here are some details:

Service Champions (Yorba Linda) quoted $12,000 for both units (heating and AC).
Some Asian Guy (Irvine) quoted $5,400 for both units.

I picked the Some Asian Guy.  4 years later...works fine....circuit breaker broke during the heat wave, but he replaced it no charge.

Ok I looked up my records for Sky Mountain HVAC and in 2010, I only paid $3,400 and not $5,400. (Minor duct work included)

The HVAC Sky Mtn installed was from Goodman.
The HVAC Service Champions quoted was Carrier and had more tonnage that I didn't need.  Also it had a life time warranty and was suppose to be more quiet.

I don't remember what the warranty or service was for Sky Mtn, but I do remember it was freaking cheap, and I could buy 4 HVACs to 1 HVAC.  The guy also said he'd fix it if it broke, and so far he came out twice, and fixed it w/o charging me anything, although it's been 3 years, and I expect him to bill me soon if something breaks again.  Both times was just the circuit breaker going out, which I know how to replace by myself now.

I was crossing fingers when I turned on the A/C after I got home...luckily everything still works, I hope the $900 I spent will give me at least two years of A/C..  Condenser gets louder and louder every time I turn it on, hmmm might need to get a tech out again...

If you need a tech again call Jerry at Connected Air:http://www.yelp.com/biz/connected-heating-and-air-conditioning-orange-3

He is honest and fair, and he really knows his stuff.  He'll also teach you as he repairs if you're willing to sit and listen.  Last year I had a leak, had to replace my compressor, and needed a new unit in the attic.  He did all this for me at very reasonable prices and had my he works on weekends as needed.

They do get very busy in the summer though so there may be a wait if you need him when the heat starts kicking up.

I hope I won't need his services but thanks for the rec, not bad for a HVAC company to have +100 reviews on Yelp and 5 stars

I had problems with our AC last year and used Thomson Air. I would highly recommend them. They saved me thousands of dollars.

My central AC wouldn't get cold and the initial vendor said my condenser was leaking and needed to be replaced. I got quotes from multiple companies which were in the thousands of dollar range. Thomson was the only one to offer to repair the condenser rather than replace the whole system.

Most AC businesses would rather sell you a brand new system rather than repair something and save you money. Yes there is no guarantee your AC can't spring another coolant leak but spending a few hundred dollars versus several thousand dollars was a risk I was willing to take.

Thomson Air got my vote for honesty and professional service. I also liked their use of technology--you can text them for quote/appointment requests, they use iPads on site to take notes, and email you right away pdf quotes.
