Wonder what will happen in the following scenario?
You book your summer vacation travel now on American Express.  Travel is after June 20, 2016.  How would the reward points accumulate, 3% (current) or 4%.

Also if you charge in full the airplane ticket now on American Express and travel after 6/20/16 will you still get the card covered life insurance, baggage theft protection etc.?

Wouldn't it be based on when you purchase, so current rate at 3% instead of the new 4%.

And if charged on Amex, the coverage on Amex will still be the same.

Of course you can call both and see if they'll offer better incentives over the other.

But I wouldn't have the American Express any more after 6/20/16.  Would Citi provide those coverages for charges made on American Express

Yeah, but it is more fun to pose this question here and see what others think.

Pretty sure that the rebates are based upon when the charges are incurred.  IIRC, you get an annual check for the rebates so it would be the same now.

Travel insurance/coverage is handled through AMEX so unless they disappear, you are still good.  Costco AMEX is going away but AMEX is still around.

It's really not all that different than when your employer (or you) switch insurance coverage.  All incidents/coverage before a certain date is handled by Company A while incidents/coverage after that date is handled by Company B.

We still love our Platinum Amex, lots of perks with the card.  Even if we cannot use at Costco, we use it on most other purchases. Will now have to pull out the dusty visa for Costco since any Visa card works.
