I ended up buying the Noritz 9.8 GPM tankless water heater for around $1,000 shipped.  I'll have it installed along with a water softener and filteration system.

Where you getting the softener from?

A few of my clients got a water softener/reverse osmosis/whole house filter installed by So Cal Water and were very happy with the product and price ---> http://www.socalwater.com/

They got the Whole House filter which is what I'll get ---->http://www.socalwater.com/whole-house-filtration/

What's the price on the softener installed?

Got a quote and it's $2,800 installed for the water softener and whole house filtration system and another $400 for the reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink with a faucet onto the counter and connected to the fridge water source.

USC, did you get any other quotes other than So Cal?  Or was $3,200 the best price for water softener and drinking water filtration system?  Do they drill the faucet through the granite countertop for you and install the filters underneath the kitchen sink?

I did not get another other quotes as 3 of my clients used them and their products and were very happy.  Yeah, the $3,200 installed was their best price for the water softener, whole house filtration, and reverse osmosis system.  They will drill a hole in my quartz counter to install the faucet next to my kitchen faucet and install the reverse osmosis system under my kitchen sink as well as tie it to my fridge water line.

USC, what do you mean by whole house filtration?  Isn't a water softener system supposed to be connected to all the bathroom showers and faucets, etc?

A softener is not a filter.  It only replaces the calcium ions (the "hardness") in the water with sodium or potassium.  Any precipitates and chlorine pass right on through.  I personally don't see a need for filtered water in my shower, sinks or laundry.  I did install an RO filter for drinking/cooking, and have a separate filter feeding the ice maker on the fridge.  As mentioned prior, one thing you don't want is to have softened water feeding any landscape irrigation systems.
