Condo Noise Complaint: Door Slamming

Did you ever complain to HOA or to the Board or even Irvine PD?

I spoke with my neighbors to see what they were experiencing and after talking with them it sounded like a few had worse experiences than mine.  I thought about starting a petition, since Irvine Pacific wouldn't do anything about the sound issues we were experiencing.  The IP rep did tell me that one of my neighbors was absolutely going nuts over the garage door noises.  Shortly, thereafter I noticed they sold their place. I consulted with a few sound engineers, who all informed me that its just the nature of wood frame homes.

Basically it comes to live with it or move.  I dealt with it for two years and cashed out on my gains.  I haven't looked back and I will never again consider an attached home.

Hi All,

Does anybody know if a neigbor slamming their front door and distubing other residents is in violation of Penal Code 415: distubing the peace? We have a neigbor who has continually slam their front door multiple times a day. Its so hard our wall literall shakes.  We have confronted the neigbor 4-5 times asking them to be considerate and not slam their doors, but it has not improved. We are out of options and I'm considering contacting irvine pd to get involved.

We are also in the process of going to board meeting next month to complain, but I'm not sure if door slamming is covered under CC&R's. Does anyone know if the Board can do anything about door slamming?

Any helpful insight would be appreciated. Please don't suggest us slamming our doors or play loud music in retaliation. I wan't to handle this issue in a mature manner if possible.

Thanks

What sounds like slamming really isn't.  You can test this yourself by having someone "slam" your own door while you are in the house.  The wood walls and floors amplify the sound and motion making it seem like a slam.  As a result your neighbor's door slam will be even more forceful than your door own.

Thanks for the posters who gave helpful feedback. I understand the nature of attached homes. You would think that everyone living in these units would understand the nature and if there is noise complaint you would be considerate of your neighbors. If someone was complaining about me slamming my door, I would make a conscience effort not to slam the door and close it gently.

Anyways called IRVINE PD. They were really cool about it and understanding.

Ugh. I hate that too. Don't worry. I'll take care of it for free. One house actually has a nice bench and a tray for shoes except they don't use it. All the shoes are cluttered by the front door.

I'll bring it up at the HOA board meeting.

Forget the HOA. The SWAT Team is just a phone call away!

I had the same issue with my bottom neighbor.  They kept slamming their doors, their front and garage doors would shake my place.  I also spoke with them but it never got better.  It was a nightmare, they frequently woke me up in the middle of the night when they would slam their bathroom door.  That's the nature of living in an attached wood frame home.

USCTrojan knows my horror stories very well.  We sold my place as soon as it hit 2 years old.

I don't think the police would go out for "closing the door loud"

Surprisingly they did come out and had a talk with them.

I guess they did nothing? (Just gave them a warning?)
