Class 302, shaved snow Taiwanese shop to open in Irvine

Average 2.5 stars on yelp, still getting bad reviews after being open for a few months.  Feels gimicky, with the chairs tables and chalkboard.  I think they will close once they run out of new customers, I don't plan on going back.

Satay squid potage, I think my homemade version is better, squid had a weird taste, too much basil.

Mango snow ice, not bad, wish there was more mango, I-Tea's version gives you more for the money

Really cramped inside, my legs don't fit under the table, so one leg sticking out is a real awkward way to eat.  Taco place next door looks interesting..

We tried the shaved snow at class 302 this past weekend. We ordered the mango and the other fruity one, the name escapes me at the moment. The taste of the mango got old and overwhelming after a while. We thought the mango shaved snow was the culprit because the other fruity one had straight plain shaved snow so the taste was clean. It was nice to try once but I think we'd go back to the Balcony before going to Class 302.  The cashier's lack of customer service didn't help and soured the experience. There were no tables available so we opted to order to go and sit outside. The cashier refused to give cups of water and any disposable cups to split the huge desserts with the friends we had with us. They had some empty to go containers sitting on the counter behind the cashier and after she refused me the first time I pointed out the empty containers asking her again if I could get a couple of empty containers. Still no.

What is shaved ice? Is it the same thing as a snow cone except more toppings? If it's a snow cone, why is the snow yellow? That pic of Mango snow ice doesn't look like ice with toppings. It almost looks like ice cream. One day I want to visit a "shaved ice" place. Going to Irvine is just like visiting another country overseas!

If you only new what BIUNIU's screen name meant  :D

Haha. Fair enough.

I'm super curious what these platters really are. I would have no idea what to order at such a snow cone place. Confession: I've seen some with beans on top (just like at frozen yogurt places). I don't get why beans are a dessert. I am afraid of the beans. I'm not Asian (shocker!), so it's all completely new to me. Any snow cones I've seen, we just put flavored syrup on it and call it a day!

Why is it not a single restaurant is at its best with all the ethnicity demographic and their money to support them. So far the foods are average or below?

Decided to give them another try with our recent heat wave..

#7 green tea snow ice with mochi, red beans, and pudding

Similar to Balcony Grills, (same owner?), Nice combo of flavors

We've gone there a couple times for the food and a couple more for the shaved ice.

The food is quite good and authentic...a little pricey but not too bad.  The shaved ice is awesome as are their drinks.

The only issue is that they're always busy so there is a long wait.  Also, while the concept of the Taiwanese classroom is pretty cool, it does not make for comfortable sitting.  The restaurant is also too small.  A lot of people just order to go and eat outside.

Another downside to the place is that it's cash only.  With such high prices, I would hope they take CC.  2 people cost me about $40 with tax and tip.

How does this place compare with the Rowland Heights location?  I went to Class 302 upon a recommendation by a friend and was rather disappointed with the flavor of the food.  The shaved snow was good, but I prefer the typical brown sugar condensed milk shaved ice with assorted goodies.

I used to enjoy eating their steamed shredded chicken rice, served in a stainless steel lunch box. I got tired of it. I haven't been there for almost 3 months now. It's always crowded there.
