Christmas Creep

I've noticed several stores are already decorating and that a few of the radio stations are now playing Christmas music. Whatever happened to Thanksgiving? They go right from Halloween to Christmas?

Yeah... Halloween would probably get skipped too if not for the fact it's the next holiday consumers spend money on after Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza/[insert wintertime holiday].

Earlier. I think I saw stuff the first of August.

Maybe we'll get to the point where they start selling their Christmas stuff on Jan. 1st. haha

Home Depot had all their Christmas stuff out Sept 26th. It seemed so inappropriate, especially since it was very warm that weekend and felt so much like summer still. I recall feeling really put off by it.

They skip Thanksgiving because it's not a shopping holiday, aside from food. Halloween doesn't get skipped because people decorate, buy candy, throw parties, and buy/make costumes. Since retail stores are in business to make money... they bring out the Christmas stuff early. I've also noticed that lower priced stores tend to set-up the Christmas displays and sales earlier in order to get a jump on the other low price competition.

Your right but the over-exposure of all things merry and bright completely dilutes the great feeling you're supposed to get when the actual holiday arrives.

I used to work at a store whose focus was Christmas decor and collectibles 365 days a year. (Most of it was "Dept. 56", if you're familiar with that stuff.) Snow Babies, village pieces, Fontanini nativities... every day was Christmas.

I'm convinced that my mother single-handedly keeps these stores (and QVC) in business.

I broke down and bought some ribbon last weekend.

Sometimes you need to buy your ribbon early. Stores always seem to be short on red this time of year. I think I'll go check out Target and The Container Store tomorrow and see what they have out. Hope they're not playing Christmas music already!

They have some nice things. Were you burned out on Christmas after working there?

It wasn't too bad because Christmas is my favorite holiday, so if I had to relive one over & over again, I would pick that one. However, after five years straight of every day being Christmas, I was ready for something else. LOL.

I hope you didn't have to listen to Christmas music everyday!
