I've read quite a bit on the Renaissance School International OC. Very intriguing. If you send your kids their in their general track, you can expect your kids to be business proficient in both Spanish and Mandarin. If you choose a foreign language track, your child will be fluent in either Spanish or Mandarin and business proficient in the other language. Cost is ~$1500/month and there is no homework, they will do it with your kids during school time!

Just a little correction, with the foreign language track the child will be fluent in both Spanish and Mandarin.  They teach all subjects (except English class and Spanish class) such as math, geography, science, history, etc in Mandarin.  The parents got accompanying textbook in English so we can understand what they are doing.  They use Math curriculum from Singapore so it's quite advanced.  Elementary school hours is 8.30-4 including 1 hour homework time.

There is also Seashore Academy in Costa Mesa offering similar program but they have shorter hours.

Just curious, so if they teach almost all subject in Mandarin, won't their English technical/business language skills suffer in the process ?

Meggie - do you feel Renascence is too "hard core"?  I know they really focus on academics - for example, their playground/outdoor space is pretty small.  Thoughts on this?

Academics too "hard core"? You better turn back in your aZn card. I thought everyone in Irvine is a Tiger Mom ;)

Meggie, is there a long waitlist for their preschool ?  My daughter is turning two in a few weeks.  Should I start putting her on the waitlist ?

Maybe we can move out of Irvine and use the MR and property tax savings to pay for her school tuition  :P

Thanks for the feedback meggie. I'm probably going to go do a classroom observation soon (if they let me) to see how the preschool works.  I know u live in SG based on your previous posts. Are u planning on sending your daughter there through elementary or will you be sending her to SG elem for first grade. I'm torn about private versus public school and always like to hear about how others decide. But feel free to ignore me if you think I'm being too nosy :)

I actually live in NO gate.  I live in one of the UN-Villages of Irvine that got assigned to TUSD (Hicks Canyon).  I heard nothing but good things about Hicks Canyon but really want the trilingual assets for my children.  We are planning on keeping them at Renascence until Middle School and then go to public HS.  Renascence school itself will go all the way to HS (they are building the grades every year).

On Monday (Feb 17) they have open house if you want to observe (Need to RSVP).  You can also bring your children and let them stay in the school all day.  The school is open on most BS holidays, which works well for us (working parents).

Thanks for the info on the open house.  I'll probably drop by for the open house.  It's my turn to take off work because my daughter's daycare is closed on that day (speaking of BS holidays).

Slight aside...I am curious about afterschool programs rather than immersion program.  Has anyone had any experience with those and any recommendations?  Thanks.
