Children Not Welcome at Greenwood

Greenwood management decided to close their park. I went to checkout the model homes again with my family. My kids were in the park and were told to leave by a security guard. Go figure, no playing allowed in a children's park.

Great move by Greenwood to attract young families.

/sarcasm

Did they say why?
Maybe they just found traces of hazardous waste at the former base.
Oh wait, wrong base.

I briefly spoke with the guard. He said it was a "management decision." LOL...He said it was okay to look at things but not play. That went real smoothly with my kids.

I wonder if it's the number of folks that came during opening and littered everywhere.
Or they never learned this part from irvine's model home/community openings, don't drive away potential buyers

It's probably a liability issue. Some kid probably took a dive from that that hill which is a little steep. It's one thing if a homeowners kid takes a dive, if they sue they are suing themselves and the rest of their neighbors. Right now some kid takes a dive and the builder is on the hook. Victory park across the street looks awesome but still not opened yet.

I can definitely see the liability aspect but that is why you buy insurance.

I can't recall a recent new home opening where the builder bans kids from playing in their newly built playground. Not TIC, not 5P, not even BR.

Wonder how long it'll last. When do the first homes close?  Can't keep it closed when that happens.  Or maybe they'll let you play if you flash your purchase agreement.

I was at the park around three weeks ago and told by security the park was closed. Its probably been just for show since then.

Now there are signs posted everywhere, park is closed, and couple security guards patrolling around it.

When I read the subject line of this post, I thought it was that children weren't welcome at the models.

First, I think you're being a bit dramatic by saying they're not welcome. It seems to me they're just not welcome to take advantage of a playground where they're not residents (yet). I have no problem with that.

I do wish that builders would ban children, though, from their models. Most kids are utterly bored with model home viewing and are dragged along by their parents. Some kids are well-behaved (mostly absorbed by their iPads or whatever is playing on the TV). Others run around from room to room screaming, jump on beds, etc and are just generally nuisances. Certainly, this is the fault of the parents for dragging them along and for not teaching them proper behavior in such settings. I'm sure that children cause a lot of damage to model homes. Frankly, my dog is better-behaved than many children, yet most model homes won't allow my dog in (except for TNHC, where my dog is always welcome).

I think it's not in greenwoods best interest to keep the park closed during showing time, it'll turnoff some potential buyers, I want to be able to walk around and picture myself in the park looking at the surrounding.

As far as kids running around the models, that's another reason why I'll never buy a model home.
Interesting that some allow dogs as there are people allergic to dogs, I don't think there's such a thing as being allergic to kids, haha

All I know is, if I bring my dog, he'll be find a comfortable spot like the couch or bed and won't move from it peacefully.

I'll agree to ban children from model homes, if we can also ban all dogs from public areas. My kids don't piss and poop on the parkways and every green area daily like most owners' dogs do. In Columbus Square (Tustin), there used to be huge yellow spots in the park and parkways (grass next to sidewalk) from all of the dogs pissing in the same spots marking their territory.

Agreed?

Ban all kids from public areas, and you have a deal!

Yes require all parents to get sitters before potentially buying a home for their family.

Bizarro world.

Agreed, once we witness all kids defecating in public areas, we'll ban them too. Until then, we'll just ban dogs.

Of course the subject line is dramatic--that's the  point in getting people to read the thread 😀

Greenwood has every right to close their park to the public but it's a marketing failure. If your trying to attract young families with kids (and dogs too), then closing the park could be one less positive experience to finalize a sale.

Buyers have many choices and I don't see other new home communities closing their parks.
