IRVINE ? Police are looking for a man who tried unsuccessfully to rob two markets on New Year's Eve.

The robber was described as a thin white man in his 40s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, wearing a multi-colored Raiders cap, a green jacket and blue jeans.

At 6 p.m. Dec. 31, the man went into the Ralph's supermarket on Culver Drive at Walnut Avenue and demanded that the cashier put money in a manila envelope he was carrying, Irvine police said. The cashier refused and the man ran off down Walnut without any money.

Around 15 minutes later, the man walked into a 99 Ranch Market a few blocks away on Walnut and tried the same thing. He was again refused and ran off.

Police believe the same man may have tried again in Orange around 8 p.m.

Anyone with information about the robbery attempts may call Det. Wayne Brannon at 949-279-8671.
