Funny you should use this term. I've been hearing Futuristic Vintage thrown around in the fashion world lately. I can't figure out exactly what Futuristic Vintage is, though. But it is suppose to be the up coming fashion trend whatever that looks like.</blockquote>

[quote author="Mc" date=1258038317]Okay, I think I?ve come off my high from the house and anxiety about moving is starting to settle in. I came home today to one packed box. Mc Husband did it while I was at work. Immediately, I snapped ?What are you doing?? ?I don?t want the house filled with boxes? I know it would probably be good for me to have everything boxed up, less homey. It would be easier to let go if the whole house was a mess of boxes, right? I don?t know where this sudden attachment, to this apartment I cursed so many times, is coming from. The downstairs neighbor and school nearby were even extra obnoxious today. But this crusade place has been our home for over 3 years. I don?t know how I turned into this sentimentally puddle of mush. I blame Mc Husband. I was unattached, carefree, an ice cube until I met him. Now look at me blabbing about my new found love for my apartment. Sigh?..</blockquote>

I know exactly how you feel. I hate to move and that didn't change when I moved into my first house. We didn't move until a month or so after we closed escrow, when our rental lease was up. My bf started packing up his stuff in our rental about three weeks before we moved and it gave me anxiety. A few weeks later, he had anxiety because I didn't start packing until two days before we moved. It took me almost an entire day to pack the kitchen and I finished packing my closet at about 4 a.m. on the day we moved.

You are moving into your perfect house, and soon enough, it will give you that home feeling! Congrats!

I'm totally over it today. My apartment got it's one day of mourning from me and I'm ready to move on. Going to start clearing out the unneeded junk and get to packing! :)

Such a good student. :)

Did you try it, and if so, did it help?</blockquote>

It is a big help. Thank you again.

Now if we could only get the two- and four-year-old to get with the program!

I reread <a href="http://www.irvinehousingblog.com/forums/viewthread/4129/P25/">this</a> great post by Bk today. I enjoyed it so much more the second time around now that I get to live there. :)

City like this is extinct. The place was conceived with aesthetic as the primary goal. I have a 1912 Architect and Engineer magazine and the park in Fullerton with the Lagoon was the featured article. The motive of the park was not to promote home sale but to enhance the location with its unique topographical features and preserving it for the future generations. Here we are 100 years later the place is an asset to Fullerton. The idea of a landscape preserve being the heart of the city made a lot sense where citizens can gain entry from all of its perimeter.

The so called landscape preserve we see today is land difficult to develop at inaccessible fringes. Land is being donated to bargaining higher density in the development zones. Cities are designed to achieve economic return with compromised aesthetic goal.

Take for instance new cities prefer ugly strip malls would not line retail shops and second floor offices next to a sidewalk along a blvd with parking lot at the rear. Old Southern California cities with this "Main Street" characteristic are world renown destinations. Old Town Pasadena, Third Street Promenade, State Street in Santa Barbara, Robertson, West Hollywood, Gas Lamp District, Venice Beach and Laguna Beach.

Other lesser known short Main Streets are Orange, Brea, Fullerton San Clemente, Whittier, Huntington Beach, Arcadia, and Alhambra. All are unique gathering places and homes to many merchants living in the neighborhoods knowing their customers by name.

There are limited cities with this type of ambiance and only a small handful of them had a vision of preservation 30 years ago.

[quote author="Mcdonna1980" date=1258108257]Eva, did you follow the 31 day routine of Fly Lady? If so, did it work to change your habits?

I so needed this site, thank you!</blockquote>

Which time? :smirk:

The last time I did it, I was so busy at work, I stayed on step 1 for two weeks, until I could get time to move forward. Just keeping the sink shined those two weeks was such an accomplishment.

I don't follow it religiously anymore, although a few habits are now ingrained. I also broke down and got housekeeper that comes every two weeks. That helps a lot when both of you work, and when one spouse hates doing "chores."

EvaL, I still have FlyLady bookmarked. And every time I notice my sink is dirty I think of you. :-P

Seriously though, moving sucks. McD, just think that it will soon all be over.

[quote author="Mcdonna1980" date=1257564323]One thing we are looking into doing is a seismic retro-fit. Do you have an opinion on this? We found one guy out in Pasadena that is highly recommended but he won't do the OC for some reason.</blockquote>
Mcdonna, congratulations on your new place! Please do let us know how the seismic retrofit stuff goes. I am also considering getting this done if I buy an older place, but I've been able to find surprisingly little info about it online. Most of the info is on seismic retrofitting of commercial properties; what little useful info on residential retrofitting seems mostly to be from the SF Bay area, where there is or was a local government credit that could be applied to such jobs.

It is official, McDonna and Mr. McDonna are the proud new owners of a beautiful craftsman home. I'm looking forward to the housewarming party after they get back from Costa Rica.
