Oh, Iho. Where to begin. I'm supposed to be doing something else right now, not writing an essay on the evolution of retail in America. Yet I can't keep from laughing at the part where you try to teach me what shopping for women's clothing is like. I've been doing it for years - don't you think I would know something about it by now?? It's like you think I'm stupid or something. I wouldn't try to lecture you on guy stuff you've been doing for twenty years and I've never done.
I'm not confused one iota. I am very confident in my reply and I stand by it. I replied to your comment where you said, "IT JUST DOESN'T WORK" buying those three things online: hardware, clothing, and groceries. I am here to tell you it does work. To my knowledge, I didn't say one threatens the livelihood of the other but if I did, you'll have to show me where. You're trying to make the topic of discussion a moving target.
"If Home Depot and Lowe's sales were mostly online, they wouldn't have physical stores."---- They already do not carry several products in-store that they used to and instead, only offer it online. Go into any Home Depot and try to find the wallpaper section. You can't. Why? It no longer exists. It's all online now. Try to go buy some foam chair rail molding. Same thing.
"There are many things that most people can only buy in person. Browsing through those online clothes stores, you can't try something on to see if it fits or how it looks on you, you have to order it first, then try it on and if you don't like it, ship it back... not very convenient. " --- It's funny, some online retailers now have virtual fit models - H&M for example. You enter your measurements, try on an outfit, and get a view from all angles. There's one thing you're forgetting and that's familiarity with a brand. There is no back & forth when you know what you want and where you want it from. I have the best successes with retailers whose clothing works for me. I'm loyal to certain brands because after so long, I know what's what. It's the same trying on clothes at a store. You can spend hours in the dressing room, taking shots in the dark. Or you can pick from designers you know have a good chance of having what you need. If you're going to try new brands, it will be trial and error either way. It's best to avoid all that if you want consistency. I like trying on clothes at home better than the store. I can do it in the privacy of my home. I can try on my shoes and other clothing with the new clothes to see if I want to keep them. I can do it at midnight if I've had a busy week. Try shopping at midnight at a store. I don't have to fight for parking or burn gas. No whiny kids with you. Which one is more convenient?? I say online is.
"Are you going to tell me that MOST people buy their groceries online?" --- The question wasn't what most people do. The question was - does it work or not. I don't care what most people do. I do care what works. Buying groceries online works. You say it doesn't. I say it does. I've done it many times. I do shop at a grocery store now -- because I WANT to at this point, NOT because I HAVE to and not because it doesn't work. I would go back to doing it online again at some point. It's very convenient.
